RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! Welcome to this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.)

The Michael Ferrari was my guest this week on New Tunes at 9 http://wjtl.com/listen/wjtl-casts/. Michael stopped by the Junction Center to talk about his latest project, “When You’re a Man,” and provide awareness regarding a Friday night, October 3, event in Manheim. Michael will be performing between 7 and 9 pm, at Gramby and Wolf streets in Manheim, PA. Michael says, “Bring food. Hear music. Eat candy.” (And please bring a donation of non-perishable food items for the Manheim Central Food Pantry.)

The Michael Ferrari’s new project, “When You’re a Man,” is a wonderful adventure in sound. Michael is an eclectic artist known for simultaneously singing, playing guitar, and whacking a kick-drum! Michael talked about staying true to himself, and maintaining his vision and integrity as an artist.

For more on The Michael Ferrari, check him out on https://www.facebook.com/TheMichaelFerrari.

The new record from The Michael Ferrari, “When You’re a Man” is available on iTunes, CDBaby, and Amazon; and streaming on Spotify.

Moment Of Celebration-Words Of Blessing

john : October 29, 2014 3:49 pm : John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Moment Of Celebration reflects on words of blessing.

In Numbers 6:24, the LORD told Moses to tell Aaron and his sons how to bless the Israelites. This has become known as the priestly blessing:

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

As we see in the New Testament, First Peter 2:9 talks about followers of Jesus being a royal priesthood. We are ministers of the Gospel. We can be used of God to speak blessing on our families, our churches, and our nation. Ultimately, we are not the source of blessing. God is. That is why our blessing for others comes in the form of a prayer. We pray for the LORD to bless them and to keep them in His love. We pray for the LORD to grant them His favor with grace and peace.

This is something we can do for the well-being of our loved ones daily-by praying God’s blessing on them and looking for ways to bless them through our words and actions.

The words of blessing are reasons to be glad in the Year of Celebration.

New Tunes at 9 Roundup with Rhett Walker Band

phil : October 23, 2014 7:37 pm : music, Radio Friend Phil, Staff Pages

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! Welcome to this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.)

The Rhett Walker Band played the Junction Center Tent last night, along with Plumb and David Dunn.

Singer/guitarist Rhett Walker and drummer Kenny Davis were my guests on New Tunes at 9; we talked about the band’s second project, “Here’s to the Ones,” released last week. http://wjtl.com/listen/wjtl-casts/ The Rhett Walker Band is a Southern-fried rock band with deep roots in South Carolina. Rhett Walker unapologetically cites his musical influences as The Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, Ryan Adams, and John Mellancamp, among others. (His songwriting heroes are a diverse cast of characters; Rhett explained the process of writing for the record, and the importance of taking time to cook on the grill.)

For more on Rhett Walker and the new record, “Here’s to the Ones,” go to http://www.rhettwalkerband.com/

Moment of Celebration-Opportunities of Today

john : October 22, 2014 5:12 pm : John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK -Today’s Moment Of Celebration reflects on the opportunity of today.

It has been said that today is a gift, so maybe that is why it is called the present. We have been given this moment to seize the opportunities that God has for us.

Second Corinthians 6:2 says that “Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” God is giving us this moment to embrace the grace that is offered to us through Jesus Christ. The experience of salvation involves a relationship with God where we know Him personally, forgiveness from God, and eternal life with God in heaven.

Another opportunity that we have today is to follow God’s will. Ephesians 5:15 says, “Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”

Yet another opportunity of today is to celebrate the life that God has given us. This is what Psalm 118:24 says, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

The opportunities of today are reasons to be glad in the Year of Celebration.
