Radio Friend Phil – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup: New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL. This week on New Tunes at 9, we featured new music from, among others, Christy Nockels, Jimmy Needham, Hawk Nelson and Jaci Velasquez, whose new project, “Diamond,” releases next Tuesday, February 7. Also this week, we continued to play “New Year’s Day,” the latest single from Abandon. Abandon is a 5-piece band from San Antonio, Texas. Abandon is comprised of brothers Josh and Justin Engler; and two cousins, Dave and Steven Vela. The group’s name was inspired by biblical scripture: Joshua 22:3, which says, “God has directed us not to abandon any brothers.” For more on Abandon, go to http://www.abandonrock.com/; the website contains facebook and twitter links, plus music downloads from their current project, “Control.”

Radio Friend Phil – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup! New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL. This week on New Tunes at 9, we continued to spotlight some of the most significant new and forthcoming releases, including “Response,” the latest project from Phil Wickham. Singer, songwriter and guitarist Phil Wickham is from San Diego, California. “Response” follows his 2007 release “Cannons”; it continues to expand on his contemporary sound: lush, multi-layered pop music, expansive harmonies and Phil’s beautiful voice, comparable to the late Jeff Buckley. Phil’s father is currently a worship leader; his brother Evan is a recording artist; and both parents played a small part in shaping Contemporary Christian music as members of the Jesus Movement band, Parable. For more on Phil Wickham, go to http://philwickham.com/#!/ss:facebook for an album interview, tour dates and details on the “Fuel Your Kindle Fire” promotion, running now through January 31.

This week on New Tunes at 9, we continued to spotlight some of the most significant new and forthcoming releases, including Kutless’ new disc, “Believer,” and the final project from David Crowder Band, “Give Us Rest: A Requiem Mass in C, (the Happiest of all the Keys.”) David Crowder Band, from Waco, Texas, is one of the few bands in Christian music history that truly forged new territory by fusing seemingly disparate genres and styles of music together. The band’s exhilarating live performances featured David Crowder playing everything from guitar to theremin; from keytar to banjo—from worship settings to rock ‘n’ roll spectacles—any instrument was fair game in the studio or on the stage. This week on New Tunes at 9 we continued our look at some of the best projects released in 2011, including a new singer/songwriter from Indiana named Adam Cappa. In 2011, Adam Cappa released his debut EP, “The Rescue,” and he’s preparing to release a full-length project, produced by Jeremy Camp, on March 13th. I spoke to Adam Cappa recently on New Tunes at 9 about being the son of a sheriff, writing and recording together with Jeremy Camp and about his heart for worship; performing and ministering at various teen camps. Radio Friend Phil – It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup: New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL. This week on New Tunes at 9 we featured the best of 2011 (including Listeners’ Choice and Christmas songs). 2011 was a strong year for Christmas projects, including the latest from Smalltown Poets, “Smalltown Poets Christmas.” Last week on New Tunes at 9 I spoke with some of the members of Smalltown Poets after a concert in Georgia. They all spoke candidly about the band’s longevity and the process of choosing carols for the Christmas project. Click here http://www.facebook.com/smalltownpoets or here http://smalltownpoetschristmas.com/?tag=christmas to preview all the songs. (You can also watch videos of the band recording the Christmas songs live in the studio.)
