New Tunes at 9 Roundup with King’s Kaleidoscope

phil : October 15, 2014 6:19 pm : music, Radio Friend Phil, Staff Pages

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! Welcome to this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.)

This week, I want to introduce to you a new band: King’s Kaleidoscope. King’s Kaleidoscope is a 10-piece band from Seattle—a tentet–that has it’s own unique musical vision. King’s Kaleidoscope classify themselves as alternative worship. So what does that mean? Well, Lead singer Chad Gardner is a former turntablist who is intent upon mixing EDM (electronic dance music) with Praise & Worship Music.

Chad Gardner was my guest last week on New Tunes at 9; we talked about the unusual sound of the band, and the first radio single, “I Know.” Truth be told, the joyous nature of the song belies the deep sorrow that Chad has felt over the past year. (Chad mentioned that he and his wife lost a father-in law to cancer; and they lost their first son to a still birth.)
