Beckah Shae wants to share her “Life”

phil : June 10, 2010 8:23 pm : music, Radio Friend Phil

Radio Friend Phil – Let me get right to the point: I love the voice of Beckah Shae!  It would be way too easy to categorize her as simply another neo-soul singer; to me, when I  hear her voice, I sense  the joy and excitement she feels for Jesus Christ!

Beckah has a strong testimony to share, too. Her parents were divorced when she was three, resulting in her moving into friends and family members homes,  staying in cars, hotels and shelters for battered women. You can read her story here: http://www.myspace.com/beckahshae

Beckah Shae’s new project is called “Life” and it includes the  new single, “Here in This Moment,” a song that is becoming very popular on the WJTL Request Show and New Tunes at 9.  And before I forget, Beckah is also the guest vocalist on “Funky Jesus Music,” by TobyMac, off his latest project, “Tonight.” Her voice is amazing!

MercyMe continues to spread the message of “The Generous Mr. Lovewell”

phil : May 28, 2010 7:03 pm : music, Radio Friend Phil

Radio Friend Phil – A few weeks ago, I wrote about a special campaign spearheaded by the band MercyMe, designed to challenge listeners to display the generous love of Christ.

Today, I came across a touching story that directly relates to MercyMe’s “Lovewell” campaign.  As it tuns out, while the band was in Las Vegas recently, they ended up helping an out-of-work lady get her car repaired. You can read the entire story by clicking here: http://edition.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Music/05/27/ost.mercyme.mrlovewell/

Do you remember the first time you heard WJTL?

phil : May 21, 2010 7:51 pm : music, Radio Friend Phil

Radio Friend Phil – Here’s a few random questions for you: Do you remember the first time you heard FM 90.3 WJTL? Can you recall the first song that you heard playing on the radio? Do you have any recollection of the moment that you discovered  WJTL on your radio or computer?

My first experience with WJTL occurred in November of 1993.  At the time, I was living in Oklahoma, and decided to visit my parents for Thanksgiving near Philadelphia.  As I recall, I was traveling east on the turnpike through Harrisburg when I adjusted my radio dial to 90.3 FM—and bam! There it was like a bolt of lightning coming through loud and clear on my ’86 Pontiac Sunbird speakers! The song playing that Saturday night was “We Are The Light” by Servant. The DJ was Terry Phillips and the program was called “The Archives” (still heard every Saturday night between 9 p.m. and midnight).

I was thrilled! I was giddy with excitement! I remember saying out loud to myself–“This is a really cool radio station”—and I still feel the same way about WJTL today.

Now it’s your turn; share your story…
