Understanding Attachment 101: Why Is It Important?

Part 1 of a 2-part series by Cheryl Walters, M.S. Participants will learn how attachment forms and information about the first and second year of life cycles in healthy attachment, and what can go awry when attachment breaks or disruptions occur. The importance of attachment to healthy development in areas such as emotional and behavioral regulation, cognitive development, moral development, self-esteem and self-concept, building interpersonal relationship skills, physical development as well as overall health and resilience will be discussed. Experiential activities to better understand attachment from a parental perspective as well as from a child’s perspective will included in the training.
