Snitz Fest

October 4 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Come to the 1719 Hans Herr House on October 4, from 10am-3pm to celebrate the beginnings of Lancaster County, over three hundred years ago! This popular annual Pennsylvania German festival–held on the grounds of the county’s oldest home–features great food, interpreters in traditional dress, hands-on activities and demonstrations of colonial-era arts, crafts and farm life: threshing, quilting, loom weaving, heckling flax, churning butter, cooking over a fire, and making shingles, candles and corn husk dolls. Historic Driving Tour

Celebrating the Harvest Registration

Class: Native American Quillwork

Come to the 1719 Hans Herr House & Museum on October 25, from 9am-12pm to take the Native American Quillwork class! Among many Native tribes, hollow porcupine quills were dyed and used to adorn clothing and make jewelry. MaryAnn Robins, Onondaga, will teach the basics of quillwork and guide students to make a choker. This class is open to adults and children over 12. Tickets cost $25, and can be reserved by visiting hansherr.org or by calling (717) 464-4438.

Native American Beadwork

Come to the 1719 Hans Herr House for the Native American Beadwork class on October 25, from 1-4 pm. Beads were made by Native Americans from shells and, after European contact, glass beads were an important traded item. Native Americans used trade beads to decorate clothing and create jewelry. Christmas Candlelight Tours at the Herr House Reservations

December 1 - December 3

On December 4&5 from 6-8 pm and December 6 from 5-8:30 pm, come to the Hans Herr House and celebrate the holidays with stories and treats at the oldest house in Lancaster County. Groups will travel around the property: walking through the woods, riding on a covered wagon and on a hay wagon.
