Memorial Day

May 28th, 2010 No comments

Memorial Day is this coming Monday, May 31, 2010.  It’s a day to remember the U.S. men and women who died during military service and those who serve today.    Lord, be with our soldiers … and soldiers everywhere for that matter.

Since it’s a national holiday, many of us have the day off and we also end up spending time with our families and friends at barbecues, camp outs, parades, etc.

I found a page at usa.gov that gives history of Memorial Day,  information about a moment of remembrance, current military operations, tips for supporting troops, etc.  It also provides safety info for Memorial Day Weekend celebrating.

Have a great weekend with your family and friends and remember to remember our soldiers and to keep them in your prayers!

I am here to give you some clues, tips and other helpful hints – without giving anything away!!!
1. All of the people that you hear will be at Creation 2010 Northeast. (But not necessarily someone that you hear on WJTL)
2. It could be an artist or speaker.
3. You need to know the person’s first and last names.
4. If the person is in a band, you must know their first and last names AND the name of the band.

Revival at the Water Gate

May 27th, 2010 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – If we look into any of the great revivals of history, we will find that repentance was a significant part of each one. That was the case in the book of Nehemiah, as the people of Israel began to return to their land after time in captivity. They gathered at a place called Water Gate to hear Ezra read from the Book of the Law of Moses.

Nehemiah 8:5 says, “Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, “Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.”

What followed was a period of weeping, and then a celebration of joy. That is the kind of effect that the Bible has on us when we take God’s Word to heart. We become responsive to the LORD’s mercy and supreme authority. Sin loses its control over us as we confess to the LORD, and then, we are freed to worship God with a joyful heart, because of the way God has made Himself known to us.

That’s today’s Mission Statement for representing Jesus in the world today.

Listener Encouragement

May 27th, 2010 1 comment

STACEY GAGNE – Here’s another letter we received today from a WJTL listener:

“I just wanted to send a quick thanks for all of the Christian music on the radio.  It really is a blessing.  I often overlook that at any moment I can turn on the radio and have a solid, Bible based, mission driven radio station to listen to!  Thank you!  Also, while I was recently listening, it hit me that even though you guys desperately need money to keep WJTL on the air, you still have mission organization aftter mission organization share what God is doing through them and then raising money for anything from Bibles to schools to radios while at the same time you still are depending on the Lord for your support.  It really is a unique thing, and I believe God is honored in this!  Thank you so much” –   from a 19 year old listener named Kyle

Wow… so encouraging.  We really do seek to honor God above all else with the choices we make on and off the air.  Thanks Kyle for your encouragement.

Vigilant Christianity

May 26th, 2010 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – Romans 13:11 issues this wake-up call.  “And do this, understanding the present time.  The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”

In light of the Lord’s promise to return, the Apostle Paul wanted followers of Jesus to make the most of every opportunity with the present time.  It was his desire 2,000 years ago.  His words are relevant for our lives today as well.

What are some things that keep our eyes from being wide open to the spiritual needs around us?  One thing mentioned in this verse is sin.  Ongoing selfish desires cause us to make personal gain our primary focus.  This might come out in the form of pride, greed, or lust. These desires hold us back from being the person God made us to be.  The remedy for this dark pattern is to come into the light of God’s love.  Verse 14 says, “Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”  With our faith focus on Jesus, He will give us new desires with a new attitude that enables us to live productive lives for the glory of God.

That’s today’s Mission Statement for representing Jesus in the world today.

Yay, Interns

May 26th, 2010 1 comment

STACEY GAGNE – Today we celebrated with Intern Justin to thank him, as tomorrow will be his last day interning with us.  This semester we were happy to have Justin King, a Home Schooled Senior and Andrew Jones,  a Sophomore at Harford Community College intern with us.  Both of them had the opportunity to spend time in the office behind the scenes, in the studio and on location at some events with WJTL.   We’ll miss you both Justin and Andrew!  Tune in tomorrow during the Get Up and Go Show for Justin’s last day on air… and you can also hear his voice in the Bumper Sticker Spotting Promo we are currently airing.

We are excited to have “former Intern” Sami… Samantha Piersol back with us this summer.  She interned with us as a High School Senior from Twin Valley High School and is now a student at Eastern University.  She’s really active with the regional/local music scene including booking for the band Skyhawk Drive.  We look forward to having her on board to help at events this summer including Purple Door 2010!

Get To Know Dave Barnes!

May 25th, 2010 1 comment

KRISTI LEIGH – I’ve been a Dave Barnes fan for years and am very excited that we’ve been playing his new song “God Gave Me You” on WJTL lately.   Dave is a pastor’s kid from Mississippi who went to college to further his drum-playing studies–and for fun, started playing guitar and writing songs!  He’s been at it for a while now, and is finally getting some national radio play!  (We used to play Dave Barnes on the Audiolab since his music has always been cool!)  This guy is full of life, incredibly silly and super talented!  Check out videos below to see Dave telling the story behind his new song and to see him play it acoustically.  But to get to know his silly side, I’ve also included a couple of his random videos…  Enjoy!

For more on Dave Barnes and to listen to a few of his new songs, check out his site http://www.davebarnes.com/

Spiritual Growth and Unity compared to a steeple

May 25th, 2010 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – Our relationships with other brothers and sisters in Christ are affected by our relationship with God. With a right relationship with God, bitterness fades and yields to tenderness. Envy is bound by peace and contentment. Selfishness is overcome by generosity. Jesus is the One who makes these changes possible.

Second Corinthians 13:11 is a final appeal by the Apostle Paul to the Corinthian church. The New American Standard Bible says, “Finally, brethren, rejoice, be made complete, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.”

Growth and unity reflect the shape of a steeple on top of a church. The closer we get to God, the closer we also move toward each other. Growth and unity also reflect the visibility of a steeple on top of a church. As God’s people love each other as the Lord intends, our witness for Jesus shines brightly.

That’s today’s Mission Statement for representing Jesus in the world today.
