Today’s Life Application Truth-An offering that pleases God

January 31st, 2012 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – From Romans 12:1.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.”

Christians are called to holiness. This will NOT happen through legalism to a list of do’s and don’ts in the Bible.  And it won’t happen by ignoring God’s do’s and don’ts. Holiness occurs as we respond to the mercy of God by offering our bodies to Him as living sacrifices.

This involves loving God with our mind (what we think about), loving God with our heart (making Him our greatest treasure), loving God with our hands (acts of service), and loving God with our mouth (the words that we say). These are just some examples of how we can honor God with the various parts of our body.

Here is how the Message describes Romans 12:1: “Here’s what I want you to do, God helping you. Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work and walking-around life-and place it before God as an offering.  Embracing what God does for you is the best thing that you can do for Him.”

A surrendered life to God is a vital sign of a changed life in the Year of Transformation.

Real News of Inspiration

January 29th, 2012 2 comments

Herb Suereth —

Here’s this week’s Real News of Inspiration from the Christian Post’s Anugrah Kumar

Do you know any Olympic Gold Medalists who have professed faith in Christ?  Recently, Scott Hamilton was featured in a video in which he professed his Christian faith and spoke on how he came to faith in Christ.  Hamilton met his wife during his diagnoses of cancer in 1997.  She was a Christian and took him to church.  There the pastor told him that Christianity is a faith of history and the events in the bible actually took place.  Hamiltom was intrigued and came to faith through that meeting.  He traced the events in his live and could see how God was there during the good times and bad.  At the end of the video, Hamilton sumarized, “I am Scott Hamilton and I am second.”

Our Debut Concert at The Junction Center with My Friend Marty Shaughnessy

January 27th, 2012 No comments

STACEY GAGNE – Last Saturday night was another special night here at WJTL.  We had our inaugural concert here in the Millen Room at the Junction Center featuring Marty Shaughnessy of Rainchildren.   WJTL staff and some friends of the family were together to kind of kick off and preview what concerts in our new cafe setting will be like.  It was exciting for us to be able to enjoy the warm atmosphere together and also broadcast the concert live on WJTL.  (We will be doing a re-broadcast on WJTL soon)

It was an informal night with Marty playing familiar music, reminiscing, coffee, hot cocoa and other refreshments.  (I tried to keep the beverages hot and full while also taking in the relaxing vibe with my friends).  I couldn’t help but smile and thank God.

I’m looking forward to more events like this one here at The Junction Center.  Stay tuned as we have plans underway to bring more events here to The Millen Room in the near future.

Thank you to Sherri Gagne and Tim Landis for the great photos!

Life Application Truth-Unwavering Loyalty

January 26th, 2012 No comments

JOHN SHIRK-From First Kings 18:21:

Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.”

The invitation of Jesus to His disciples was “Follow me.”  That invitation extends to us today as well. He is drawing us away from attachment to the things of this world-the pursuit of riches, fame, and selfish pleasures, and He is drawing us to a new way of life that includes placing our trust in Jesus and pledging our allegiance to Him with our souls.

Sometimes the voices in the world such as the media, our peers, or even family members in some cases, may try to apply pressure to put our faith somewhere else. Our own sinful nature wages war on our soul. Yet, God lovingly calls us to unwavering devotion to Him.

Elijah’s words challenge us to get off the fence of divided loyalties and go in the direction of the true God.

Unwavering loyalty to God is a vital sign of a changed life in the Year of Transformation.
