Prizes are made possible by the Rohrer Family Of Companies!

Hi! Question about the voting for when entries are first sent in: are the top 10 selected by you guys here at WJTL, or is it open to the public both times? Thanks so much! 🙂

    April 1st, 2013 at 10:57 | #7

Hi Lexy! WJTL selects the 10 contestants — then, the audience votes for the Top 3 at Sertoma!

My 11-year old son would like to do a karate demonstration. As we read through the “general contest rules”, it states that a person must be at least 18 years of age to receive a major prize of $500 or more. Does this mean he would not be able to win first place? (assuming he makes it to the top 10 :)) Thanks!

    April 5th, 2013 at 11:38 | #11

Thanks for the question, Wendy! In the case of this contest, that rule does not apply! Whoever wins the Talent Challenge, wins the prize!

    April 5th, 2013 at 16:25 | #12

Can I submit several videos for my entry?

    Thanks!

  13. kristi
    April 6th, 2013 at 08:19 | #13

Hi Elisha, it works best if you submit one video that would be what you would perform if you were chosen in the Top 10. So, one song or 5 minutes of talent performance is ideal.

    April 10th, 2013 at 09:08 | #14

Would it be appropriate for someone to speak for two to three minutes and then play a pre-recorded Christian audio book (more towards the likeness of an audio drama; approx. 22 minutes in length) written, produced and engineered by contestant/speaker? The opening speech would be in reference to the audio.

    Thanks!

  15. kristi
    April 10th, 2013 at 12:10 | #15

Thanks for asking, P.J.! That would not fit in with what we’re looking for. This event is all about live performances and entertaining the crowd.

    April 10th, 2013 at 18:50 | #18

Hi. My name is Becky Shank and I wanted to try out for the talent challenge, but I had a questions. First, is there a registration form we have to fill out or just write it on a random piece of paper/email? Thanks! 🙂

  19. kristi
    April 11th, 2013 at 09:42 | #19

Hi Becky! You can just include the information we asked for in your email (or on paper if you’re mailing).

  21. April 12th, 2013 at 12:57 | #21

    April 14th, 2013 at 15:22 | #23

Hi again! I had another question. Can the song I’m singing be a christian song or should it be something else? The song I want to do is by Mercyme, but I didn’t know if there were any rules against that or not. Thanks again! 🙂

  24. kristi
    April 15th, 2013 at 06:48 | #24

Hi Becky, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a Christian song–however, we would want to make sure it would be family-friendly.

  25. Alyssa
    April 21st, 2013 at 15:46 | #25

Hi ! my name Is Alyssa 🙂 I was wondering that if we make it, then would we be ok to do a different song then the song we used to enter the contest with ? thankyouuuuu 🙂 love, Alyssa

  26. kristi
    April 21st, 2013 at 22:47 | #26

If you make it, we can talk about what song you’ll perform. We always want to make sure it’s family-friendly and a similar style to the song you enter. We’re open to discussing it with the 10 Contestants, though.

  27. Breanna
    April 25th, 2013 at 13:11 | #27

I would like to do this but I was wondering if you could bring a CD to sing along with or Do you have to provide your own music? Also, the music you sing in the video you send, can you sing that for the show or must you sing something else?

  28. kristi
    April 25th, 2013 at 13:19 | #28

Good questions, Breanna! We will have the ability to play an instrumental track on CD for you to sing along with at the event. We prefer that you enter with the song you would like to sing so that we can tell what your performance would be like if we pick you!

Hi Laura! We’ve been in touch with everybody who we got an entry from in order to confirm. I don’t see one from Billy Page… You may want to recheck to make sure the email went through unless it was mailed.

    May 6th, 2013 at 18:40 | #43

must the video sent in be thee exact song that will be sung if chosen?

  44. kristi
    May 7th, 2013 at 11:00 | #44

Not necessarily, Emily–but it’s preferred. We want to see what you’d be doing that day if we choose you, so it helps if you use the song you’d perform that day.

Hi, Just curious Kristi, how will the stage be? cement, or wood amd is it rough or smoothe like?

  47. kristi
    May 8th, 2013 at 12:32 | #47

Hi Luis! We set up a standard outdoor concert stage. It’s a wooden surface on steel supports. We also have a professional sound guy and sound system, plus cables and mics. We can play CDs. We discuss these details with contestants before the event so they have all the info they need.

  48. May 8th, 2013 at 14:03 | #48
