Intern Sandra Out and About: Soccer Shots!

May 30th, 2013 No comments

This summer on Thursday mornings during the 8-9 hour, I’ll be hopping in the cookie car and heading into the community to get the scoop on upcoming events! Be sure to tune in for live interviews, and keep an eye out for more cookie car fun throughout the summer!

This morning I visited the Soccer Shots office in Lancaster and chatted with Zak and Justin about their upcoming Spring Celebration Bash this Saturday, June 1st!  They were both very excited about this Saturday’s event, which will feature free soccer clinics for kids ages 2-8, music, games, food, fun, and the Soccer Shots mascot! Justin also told me about the philanthropic arm of Soccer Shots, Global Goals. Global Goals is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunity for disadvantaged youth in the US and around the world to enjoy the game of soccer, something both Zak and Justin seemed very passionate about. You can learn more about Global Goals at soccershots.org/global-goals.

I had such a blast taking to these two guys, and learning more about Soccer Shots!  Be sure to keep tuning in on Thursday mornings to find out where else I’ll be!

For more information on the event, you can visit the Events page at wjtl.com.  Parents are asked to register their kids for the free sessions at lancaster.ssreg.org and you can find out more about Soccer Shots at soccershots.org/Lancaster.

Oklahoma Tornado Relief

May 24th, 2013 4 comments

Christ in Action: UPDATE:  After much deliberation and discussion CIA has decided to cancel the trip from this area scheduled to go to Oklahoma.   There has been such an increidble response from the community and around the country to accomplish immediate needs.  Also, “Homes were completely demolished so we are not going in and helping the homeowner clear things out of their home and prepare for remodeling. In this case, they simply saved what they could in memories and the rest is being completely bulldozed and taken away. People are staying with relatives and friends and are not really in the area at this time.”

Keep up to date with  Christ in Action’s Facebook page.

Feed the Children:  Feed The Children has already responded with basic essentials for the families in Shawnee, OK and provided several pallets of water and frozen lasagna to The Salvation Army and The Red Cross – who are already providing services to those in need.

Cash donations to help with Feed The Children’s disaster relief efforts and help defray the transportation costs of food and essentials needed for the families of those affected can be made by phone, call: 800-627-4556 or online at www.feedthechildren.org

Samaritans Purse Information for how to volunteer with Samaritans Purse are available at samaritanspurse.org   Chainsaw skills are helpful but not required. Volunteers will be working primarily on debris clean up, chainsaw work and roof tarping.

You can also text the word “STORM” to 80888 to make a $10 donation through your mobile phone; to confirm your gift, respond with the word “Yes.”
