New Tunes at 9 Roundup: Newsong’s “White as Snow”

December 19th, 2013 No comments

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.) Veteran Christian band Newsong has recorded numerous classics over a 30-year career; some of the most beloved songs include “Arise My Love,” “From This Moment On,” and “Miracles.”  And while the aforementioned songs were popular in their day, it was their song from 2001, “The Christmas Shoes,” that may well define their musical legacy. In 2013, Newsong released the project, “Swallow the Ocean” and, available just in time for Christmas, they have a new project, “Swallow the Ocean (Christmas Edition.)” Among the new compositions is “White As Snow,” a track whose proceeds are supporting, in part, Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child, whose mission is to bring shoebox gifts—and the Gospel—to millions of children worldwide. Newsong singer/songwriter/keyboardist and cellist Matt Butler talked about recording the new Christmas project, on New Tunes at 9 http://wjtl.com/listen/wjtl-casts/. For more on Newsong, go to http://newsongonline.com/index.php. You’ll find videos, facebook, and more. “Swallow the Ocean-Christmas Edition” is available on iTunes and AmazonMP3.

You’ll find links to download her music on iTunes, plus facebook (where a fan recently commented, “Thank you for sharing your life with us. Most performers don’t; you’re so down-to-earth.”) I also recommend that you check out her creative lyric video for the new song, “Redemption.” The video is shot with a camera overlooking a table; JJ’s hand is seen holding markers and writing the lyrics to the song on a large, unruled notepad. Near the end of the video, the paper becomes sprinkled with cut-out butterflies and flowers. (You can find the the new lyric video at http://www.jjheller.com/)
