RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.) One of the current trends in contemporary music is what I like call indie-Appalachia. (Modern rock bands reinterpreting and updating the traditional music birthed in the Appalachian region of America; rural music from the Virginias, the Carolinas, and Tennessee.) Bands like Rend Collective, Lumineers, The Neverclaim, Mumford and Sons, and Needtobreathe, among others. All of the aforementioned bands are updating the old-time sound of the early-to-mid 20^th century, where, in addition to the acoustic guitar, it’s not uncommon to hear the banjo, fiddle, mandolin, dulcimer, and auto harp (an instrument found in the music of the pioneering group, the Carter Family). All of this brings me to a band called Stomp Town Revival, comprised of Seattle producer/artist Brandon Bee, and Gabe Martinez of Circleslide. Bee and Martinez named their band after the stomp box, a percussion instrument that looks like a cigar box with a dangling cord off to the side. “We didn’t really intend to make a record,” Martinez says. “We were just writing for the sheer joy of it. (Meredith was in town for the National Worship Leader Conference at Calvary Church in Lancaster.) Meredith’s third project, “Worth It All,” is available now. Meredith says, “I never felt like I could write corporate worship songs. So I just started asking the Lord for songs. ‘God, I said, I don’t just want to fill the record, I want to hear from heaven. Worship singer Tim Timmons is set to release his full-length project, “Cast My Cares,” on June 4.For over 15 years, Tim Timmons served as worship leader at Mariners Church, in Irvine, CA; he’s also been performing at conferences and churches across the country. Timmons says, “I want to invite people into a conversation about Jesus. I think I’ve been commissioned to be a missionary to Christians. We do American Christianity so well, as we do church week after week. (The ‘All Things Possible’ tour makes a stop at Lancaster Bible College; tickets available at the door .) Mark Schultz is a gifted songwriter and piano player with a warm, inviting personality. Originally from Colby, Kansas, Mark moved to Nashville to pursue his musical ambitions while working as a youth pastor.
