New Tunes at 9 Roundup: Joy Ike

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.) New music available this week: “Worth It All,” by Meredith Andrews and  “All or Nothing,” by singer/songwriter Joy Ike. “All Or Nothing” is a new, 10-song project propelled by Joy’s confident piano playing and her superb voice; a voice that beams with both maturity and vulnerability. Joy Ike was born to Nigerian immigrants and, as she recalls, “some of my earliest memories involve sitting in the living room with my family and singing Nigerian choruses.” It’s that family upbringing that shine through in both her voice and songs, all written in a style she likes to call, “soul-folk.” “After 8 years of songwriting, touring, and archiving half-finished songs, I feel like this album is the most realized, most complete piece of work I have ever been a part of,” Joy says. At http://www.joyike.com/, you’ll find Joy’s facebook and you-tube pages, a  stellar new video for the song “Everything You Have,” and a link to buy the new project, “All Or Nothing,” on noisetrade.

New Tunes at 9 Roundup: Jason Castro

Jason Castro’s new project, “Only a Mountain,” is available this week. Jason is a Texas, born, singer/songwriter who was raised in the church by a musical family of Columbia descent. The former ‘American Idol’ TV star says, “I’ve heard it said that music is the language of the soul; I think it’s something God created for our souls to be able to rejoice in.” “Only A Mountain” includes eleven original tracks, all written or co-written by Jason Castro. New Tunes at 9 Roundup: TobyMac

It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup: New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL. New music available this week: “Burning Lights” by Chris Tomlin. And available next Tuesday: “Only a Mountain” by Jason Castro. As we begin 2013, I thought I would play a track from a 2012 record that debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top 200: “Eye On It,” from TobyMac. Amazon named TobyMac the Top Christian Artist of 2012, and “Eye On It” as named by iTunes as the Best Christian Gospel Album of the Year.” “Eye On It” was also recently nominated for a Grammy in the category for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
