Matthew West: One Last Christmas

December 10th, 2010

Radio Friend Phil – The story behind Matthew West’s new song, “One Last Christmas,” is both powerful and inspiring. Matthew West wrote the following open letter: “This song is the amazing story of the Locke family in Illinois whose son, Dax, was suffering from a rare form of Leukemia and given weeks to live by doctors. He was not expected to make it through the end of the year. His parents knew his favorite holiday was Christmas, and with a determination to make sure their son got to see one last Christmas, they put up all their Christmas decorations early that year. What happened next blew me away. The whole neighborhood caught on, and put up their decorations as well, next the whole town and then people around the world began putting their lights up for Dax as well. This entire community, as well as people around the world, rallied around this little guy to make sure his last weeks on earth were filled with the joy of Christmas, even if it wasn’t even December yet.”

Wow! What a beautiful story of a town coming together to help a little boy and his family. We should all remember that it could be our last Christmas – and live our life in a way that prepares us for His coming. Matt, what a beautiful memorial to a beautiful child!
