New Tunes at 9 Roundup

September 29th, 2011

Radio Friend Phil – I am going on record with the following statement: my pick for album of the year is “The Reckoning” by Needtobreathe. I repeat, the 2011 album of the year: “The Reckoning,” by Needtobreathe!  “The Reckoning” follows Needtobreathe’s 2009 stellar disc, “The Outsiders,” and finds the band sharpening and refining their Americana sound: a sublime mix of roots-rock, blues, gospel and Appalachian melodies. This new 14-song collection showcases a band soaring to new heights as both songwriters and musicians; and it’s all spearheaded by 2 brothers from a small southern town with a great name: Possum Kingdom, South Carolina. The brothers are Bear and Bo Rinehart, who were named by their father, after legendary University of Alabama football coach, Paul “Bear” Bryant. Bear says, “We want to be an important band. We want to be a band that people believe in and that people are impacted by.” “The Reckoning” just debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart! Congratulations to Needtobreathe. http://www.needtobreathe.net/
