New Tunes at 9 Roundup: Danny Gokey (American Idol Finalist)

February 26th, 2014

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.) Singer, songwriter and American Idol Top 3 finalist, Danny Gokey, was my guest last week on New Tunes at 9. Danny Gokey, who leads worship at his home church in Milwaukee, discussed the process of qualifying for American Idol, the competitive challenges of the show, and the Sophia’s Heart Foundation. (The Sophia’s Heart Foundation was founded by Gokey, in memory of his first-wife Sophia who, due to complications related to surgery for congenital heart disease, died just weeks before he auditioned for American Idol.) Danny says, “I want to see my music career as a movement.” I asked Danny to explain his emotional reaction when told by the judges he would not advance on American Idol. (Listen to the conversation here http://wjtl.com/listen/wjtl-casts/) For more on Danny Gokey, go to http://www.dannygokey.com/ for facebook, videos and music, including his new single, the title-track to his second project, “Hope In Front of Me.”
