New Tunes at 9 Roundup

November 17th, 2011

Radio Friend Phil – Some of the new and recent projects featured this week on New Tunes at 9: “God’s Not Dead,” by Newsboys, “Vice Verses, from Switchfoot, “Response,” by Phil Wickham and “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” from Owl City. Owl City is the stage name for electro-pop artist, Adam Young, who released his latest project in June and saw it debut at No. 6 on the Billboard 200. Owl City, whose real name is Adam Young, began composing music in his parents’ basement; he amassed a loyal following with the songs he was uploading to myspace.  Between 2007 and 2009, the buzz surrounding his music increased on iTunes, eventually culminating with the physical release of the project, “Ocean Eyes,” (which included his breakthrough single, “Fireflies,”—featuring Matt Thiessen of Relient K). In 2011, Owl City played the Creation Festival and scored another synth-pop hit, “Galaxies”—a song that speaks openly about his faith. He says, “I feel like I were ever to hide the fact that that’s what’s so important to me, it would be a crime” I should probably be put in jail.
