New Tunes at 9 Roundup: TobyMac

January 9th, 2013

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup: New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL. New music available this week: “Burning Lights” by Chris Tomlin. And available next Tuesday: “Only a Mountain” by Jason Castro. As we begin 2013, I thought I would play a track from a 2012 record that debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top 200: “Eye On It,” from TobyMac. Amazon named TobyMac the Top Christian Artist of 2012, and “Eye On It” as named by iTunes as the Best Christian Gospel Album of the Year.” “Eye On It” was also recently nominated for a Grammy in the category for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. (The 2013 Grammy Awards are coming up on February 10.) TobyMac’s singular vision remains the same today as it did when he was a member of the seminal group, DC Talk. “I’ve been doing this for a while; as long as you are discovering new things, creating new things and climbing new mountains, it will always be fresh,” Toby says. His band, Diverse City, remains his strongest support; they continue to play what Toby describes his “musical stew” of rock, funk, soul, Latin, reggae, pop and gospel. At http://tobymac.com/, you’ll find facebook, videos, fan photos, launch music player, and more.
