Hi!
It’s back to school time, and I have a great theme in store for you that fits this season: Adjectives! It’s perfect for the Praise & Worship Show because the songs are super descriptive in relation to who God is, what He’s done and how much we need Him. Be sure to sing along (loudly, exuberantly, and whole-heartedly).

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Q and A Segment explores the question, “Why is it important to praise God?”
There is a close connection in the Scripture between praising God and giving thanks to Him.
In Luke 17, there were ten men healed of leprosy. One of them came back to Jesus, praising God in a loud voice. Then he threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him.
Praising God is a significant way to express our gratitude to Him for who He is and what He has done. Psalm 150, verse 2 tells us to praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praising God gives us the opportunity to give credit where credit is due. It’s the right response for a grateful heart.
Praising God is a joyful experience for us as we celebrate the goodness of God.
And praising God gives public testimony that gives others the opportunity to hear what His grace means to us, and how it is shaping our heart.
As the name of Jesus is lifted up, the hearts of people are moved to acknowledge Him as King and Lord in the Year of Exploration.

Hi everyone!
Did you hear my good news this week? My husband, Sam, and I are expecting a baby boy in mid February! Check out my blog post here. This will mean some changes in my work schedule–but it won’t change anything on the Praise & Worship Show! I’ll run some repeats for you around the time the baby is born…but I’ll be back with fresh material for Sunday mornings after that!
Sam & I have waited a long time for our family to start. Since getting married 7 years ago, we’ve also both fought cancer (and are back to good health)! This edition of the show will bring a powerful theme: “Songs To Sing Through The Storms Of Life”. Many of the songs in this playlist are ones that we sang–and were strengthened by–during those tough times. You’ll see the playlist below and a few other tidbits.

“Don’t you know that day dawns after night, showers displace drought, and spring and summer follow winter? Then, have hope! Hope forever, for God will not fail you!” — Charles H. Spurgeon
Sixpence None The Richer puts this memory verse in song and encourages us not to worry about tomorrow; He’s got it under control.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Moment of Celebration reflects on the chorus of praises surrounding the birth of Christ.
Christmas reminds us that Jesus is God’s ultimate gift to the world.
The birth of Christ was a cause for celebration for Mary, the mother of Jesus, who said, “My soul glorifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
The birth of Christ was a cause for celebration for the shepherds. After their encounter with the baby Jesus, they returned to their fields, glorifying and praising God for what they had heard and seen.
The birth of Christ was a cause of celebration for the wise men, who brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Jesus. They also bowed down and worshiped him.
The birth of Christ was a cause of celebration for the heavenly angels, who said on the night of His birth, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
We can join the chorus of praises in response to a loving God who remembered us and came to meet us at our point of need.
The birth of Christ is a reason to be glad in the Year of Celebration.

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Moment Of Celebration reflects on the life changing impact of God’s grace.
After Paul was converted to Christ, there was a noticeable change in his life. Instead of wanting to persecute the church, he wanted to build up the church in the qualities of faith, hope, and love. He had an earnest desire to see Jesus glorified in his life. Through his testimony, that is exactly what happened. He became a devoted follower of Jesus, which was a reason for churches to praise God. Not only did they lose an enemy, but they gained a friend, a true ally who would speak up for the Good News of Jesus Christ, and be influential in leading people to the Lord.
In Galatians 1:22, Paul was talking about his spiritual journey after coming to faith in Christ. He said, “I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. They only heard the report: ‘The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’” Then Paul says, “And they praised God, because of me.”
This goes to show that if Paul can be converted to Christ, no soul is hopeless. When someone makes a sweeping life change like this, the body of Christ has the opportunity to surround that person with support and encouragement.
The life-changing impact of God’s grace is a reason to be glad in the Year of Celebration.
