Pennsylvania German Dialect, commonly known as “Pennsylvania Dutch,” is prevalent among Old Order Amish and Mennonite communities in Pennsylvania. Historically, however, it was spoken widely by Lutheran, Reformed and other groups of German immigrants and it is currently used in Old Order communities as far west as Wisconsin. Auctions of Rare and Used Books

On September 12, October 10, and December 12 from 6:30-9pm consigned or donated rare, out-of-print and used books are auctioned at Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. Field Trip: Native American Tour

Field Trip: Native American Tour on Nov. 1st from 8:30AM-5PM at Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. This tour includes various Native American sites in Manor Township, where the Susquehannocks traveled the river that bears their name, cultivating maize, beans, and squash in fields surrounding its shores.We also stop within the 414 acres called “Indiantown,” where a remnant of Susquehannocks settled with other tribes during colonial times. Join us on November 1, from 9am-12 pm for The Amish and their Quilts class. Learn where and when quilting began. Discover antique Amish quilts and their fondness of quilting.
