Relationship-Building Principle-Persistent Love

john : January 21, 2015 3:40 pm : John Shirk, Staff Pages

God’s people are called to live in community. The evidence of that can be found in the “One another” statements of the Bible. This week’s relationship-building principles take a look at some of these “one another” statements to better understand how God wants us to relate with other members of God’s family.

Today’s Relationship-Building Principle comes from Hebrews 13:1.

“Keep on loving one other as brothers and sisters.”

The command to love one another is given at least 12 times in the New International Version of the Bible. Here, the emphasis on love is to be consistent in expressing love for God’s people as family members. Sometimes, family members have conflict, but when the love of God is our guiding influence, these conflicts are opportunities to grow more mature personally, and grow closer in community.

Every new day is an opportunity to connect with a person in our church community and show them the love of Jesus. It could be through a phone conversation, a visit to the hospital, or a service opportunity. As long as we are serving the Lord, we will hear the Holy Spirit whisper in our conscience that there is more love to share with others. Romans 13:8 says, “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.”

Persistent love for others is a vital relationship-building principle to take to heart in the Year of Connection.

Relationship-Building Principle-Speak The Truth In Love

john : January 15, 2015 5:16 pm : John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Relationship-Building Principle comes from Ephesians 4:15.

“Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”

The pathway to a thriving and growing church comes through the pattern of speaking the truth in love. We spur believers toward a stronger relationship with Jesus and with each other. We also give unbelievers hope that they can be set free from the guilt of their sins, by coming to faith in Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus serves as the supreme example of upholding the truth while expressing love.

He told the woman caught in adultery, “Neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more.” This is a statement that extends grace while expressing the truth of God’s will.

Speaking the truth in love is a vital relationship-building principle to take to heart in the Year of Connection.

Praise & Worship Show Playlist (Jan. 11)

kristi : January 11, 2015 6:00 am : Kristi Leigh, music, Staff Pages

Hi everyone!

Did you hear my good news this week?  My husband, Sam, and I are expecting a baby boy in mid February!  Check out my blog post here.   This will mean some changes in my work schedule–but it won’t change anything on the Praise & Worship Show!  I’ll run some repeats for you around the time the baby is born…but I’ll be back with fresh material for Sunday mornings after that!

Sam & I have waited a long time for our family to start.  Since getting married 7 years ago, we’ve also both fought cancer (and are back to good health)!  This edition of the show will bring a powerful theme: “Songs To Sing Through The Storms Of Life”. Many of the songs in this playlist are ones that we sang–and were strengthened by–during those tough times.  You’ll see the playlist below and a few other tidbits.

Kristi Leigh – WJTL DJ

Kristi@WJTL.com

“Don’t you know that day dawns after night, showers displace drought, and spring and summer follow winter?  Then, have hope!  Hope forever, for God will not fail you!”  — Charles H. Spurgeon

Sixpence None The Richer puts this memory verse in song and encourages us not to worry about tomorrow; He’s got it under control.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.”

 [Proverbs 3:5-6]

Our Baby Boy on the Way

kristi : January 10, 2015 3:28 pm : Kristi Leigh, Staff Pages

I am so excited to say that my husband, Sam, and I are expecting our first baby: it’s a boy!  Our hearts are overjoyed!  This is an answer to prayer we’ve been eager to see for quite some time.  Since getting married 7 years ago, we’ve both been diagnosed with cancer–and then treated and declared healthy again.  We’ve experienced God’s faithfulness, provision and encouragement in tough times; and that’s something I really try to pass along to you through the songs we air and the playlists I put together for the Praise & Worship Show.  I know you may be tuning in for a song of hope to help you turn to Jesus in your tough times.

With our little one due in a matter of weeks, I’m getting ready for the transition from full time DJ to full time mom.  I’ll hand the Afternoon Drive over to Eddie Daniels, who hosted the air shift at WJTL years ago.  (Remember “Out Of The Box” and the contest sounder featuring the “screaming little man”?  That’s the guy!)  You’ll be in good hands as you drive home from work or school–and he’ll provide great music and info for those of you who love listening while getting dinner ready.

My last day on the Afternoon Drive will be Friday, January 16th.  I’m glad to say that I will continue to join you Sunday mornings on the Praise & Worship Show!  (For the sake of sleep and sanity, I’ll play a few repeats of playlists you’ve loved during the weeks around the baby’s birth.)  And I also hope to see you at events in the community and at the Junction Center in the future.

I’m so grateful for WJTL and the whole family of listeners.  The station has made a big impact on my life from the time I started listening in my youth.  It’s been a privilege to be a part of this radio ministry and to experience your encouragement and support.  Thank you!  I’ll make sure you get to see a picture of the baby when he’s born.  Please do keep in touch.

Relationship Building Principle-Real Friendship

john : January 9, 2015 3:45 pm : John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK -2015 is the Year of Connection at WJTL. We will examine God’s insights into healthy relationships. Listen for Relationship-Building Principles throughout the upcoming year.

Today’s Relationship-Building Principle comes from Proverbs 17:17.

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

Real friends are not just fair-weather friends who love you when you are healthy, wealthy, and wise. Real friends are also supportive in your times of need, when you are in the hospital, when you have lost your job, or when you have lost a loved one. That is when the value of real friendships is felt. That is the kind of friend that God wants us to be for others. That is the kind of friend Jesus is for us. He talked about real friendship this way in John 15:12 and 13:

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” Less than 24 hours later, Jesus was hanging on the cross, reaching out with love, dying for our sins, offering forgiveness and eternal life to those who will receive His gift of grace.

Real friendship is a vital-relationship-building principle to take to heart in the Year of Connection.
