JOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is to honor Dad.
One of the ten Commandments urges us to honor our father and mother.
This Sunday is Father’s Day-a good time to reflect on the legacy of our Dads and to appreciate the impact of Fatherhood on families and communities.
Fathers are called to have compassion on their children and train them in the way they should go. This involves times of discipline and instruction to guide them in the counsel of God. Fathers can also love and support their children by providing good gifts for them.
Proverbs 23:24 shows what can happen when we take to heart those lessons of faith that our Dads might have shared with us. “The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.”
Honoring Dad is a Vital Step to a Radiant Faith that makes a difference in our world.

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Light Reflection is from Matthew 13:31.
Jesus brought light to the subject of God’s Kingdom through parables.
On this occasion, he compared the kingdom of heaven to a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.
The influence of God’s Kingdom had humble beginnings, but it is a movement that will not be stopped. Those who belong to God will be blessed in His grace, and will find their place of service to advance the kingdom of heaven here on the earth.
In Acts chapter 5, an influential Pharisee said this about the disciples of Jesus, “If their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men, you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” God’s Kingdom continues to branch out and grow as more people follow Jesus as Savior and Lord.
This Light Reflection inspires us to be part of God’s growing kingdom in the Year to Shine.

Light Reflection-Daniel 4:34 Where Humility Leads
john : June 15, 2023 5:35 pm : John Shirk, Staff PagesJOHN SHIRK – Today’s Light Reflection is from Daniel 4:34.
These are the words of an influential leader who was brought to a place of humility after a season of insanity.
King Nebuchadnezzar raised his eyes toward heaven. His sanity was restored, and he said, “Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.”
Before he was driven to insanity, King Nebuchadnezzar was focusing on his own kingdom and taking pride in it. After he was restored, he praised and exalted the king of heaven. Those who walk in pride he is able to humble. Humbling experiences are opportunities to fall down on our knees to acknowledge the worthiness of our King in heaven.
This Light Reflection inspires us to acknowledge the goodness and greatness of God in the Year to Shine.

Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Hold Fast to the LORD
john : June 15, 2023 5:32 pm : John Shirk, Staff PagesJOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is to Hold Fast to the LORD.
Moses was diligent with this word of encouragement for the Israelites.
On one occasion, he said in Deuteronomy 30:19 and 20, “Choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life.”
To hold fast is to cling to something or someone with a firm grip.
When the LORD means everything to us, we will want to embrace Him with all our heart, and not let go. His grace will be a treasure that far outweighs anything that this world has to offer us. His words will be a fountain of life, and move us to stand up for a culture of life, love, and liberty.
Holding Fast to the LORD is a vital step to a Radiant Faith that makes a difference in our world.

Light Reflection-2 Timothy 4:1-2 Preach the Word
john : June 14, 2023 3:55 pm : John Shirk, Staff PagesJOHN SHIRK – Today’s Light Reflection is from Second Timothy 4, verses 1 to 2.
The Apostle Paul was mentoring Timothy to become a thriving leader in the early church. Before his life ended on earth, he gave these final instructions:
“In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge” Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction.”
The Gospel is the word that has the power to transform lives and bring people into God’s kingdom of light. This world is in need of good news, and through the testimony of Jesus, good news is available. Acts 13:38 says, “Through Jesus, the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.”
This Light Reflection inspires us to proclaim this good news wherever we go in the Year to Shine.

Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Learn to Discern
john : June 14, 2023 3:51 pm : John Shirk, Staff PagesJOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is learning to discern the messages we hear.
There are many voices that speak into our lives in a given day. But how can we discern between truth and error? Not all voices lead us in the same direction.
Perhaps we can learn a framework for discernment by observing the example of the Berean Jews in Acts 17:11.
They were described as people with noble character, for they received Paul’s message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
This group of people was eager to grow in their walk with God. Discernment helped them to stay on track with God so that their beliefs and way of life would be consistent with the attitude of Jesus.
According to verse 12, as a result, many of them believed.
Learning to Discern is a vital step to a Radiant Faith that makes a difference in our world.

Light Reflection-Romans 14:17-18 Kingdom of God
john : June 13, 2023 11:11 am : John Shirk, Staff PagesJOHN SHIRK – Today’s Light Reflection is from Romans 14:17 and 18.
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and receives human approval.
This passage encourages us to love our brothers and sisters in Christ through disagreements on disputable matters-those gray areas where the guidelines are not so clear. In this chapter, Paul the Apostle was talking about dietary matters. Some believers had restrictions Others took more liberties. Those differences were not supposed to disrupt unity.
The Kingdom priorities of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit can help believers remain unified through disagreements.
This is possible as we look to Christ daily, Seek His wisdom, embrace grace, live with humility, and show respect for others.
This Light Reflection inspires us to serve Jesus with righteousness, peace and joy in the Year to Shine.

Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Undivided Heart
john : June 13, 2023 11:08 am : John Shirk, Staff PagesJOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is to live with an undivided heart.
King Solomon had much wisdom, but he had many wives who led him to places of compromise. Toward the end of his life, his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God as the heart of David his father had been. This is how unholy alliances can weaken our loyalty to God.
Solomon’s father David prayed for a fully devoted heart to God in Psalm 86:11. “Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.”
An undivided heart will free us to praise God joyfully and guide our activities into places that glorify His name. This kind of loyalty can begin with a single prayer.
An undivided heart is a vital step to a Radiant Faith that makes a difference in our world.
