Kids’ Cookie Break returns to Sight & Sound Theatre this Saturday

lisa : August 25, 2010 11:38 am : Lisa Landis

LISA LANDIS-It’s been almost one year since KCB celebrated 10 years on the radio with a birthday party at Sight & Sound Theatre in Strasburg, PA.  It was the largest KCB live turnout ever and Sight & Sound Theatre went all out with special shows, giveaways, live animals, & tons of fun.

KCB returns to Sight & Sound Theatre this Saturday 9am-noon. To answer my most often asked question, “Yes, KCB live at Sight & Sound is a FREE event!  And NO registration required.  Just show up!”

Sight & Sound is performing two “interactive” performances of Joseph for the kids at 9:30am and 11am.  Look for the KCB table in the “marketplace” lobby featuring  live animals, & actors.  Jump in on mini-acting classes for the kids, request songs, eat cookies, and free KCB gear.  And we now have KCB ADULT sized T-shirts!!!  The new T-shirts just arrived and are ready to go for Saturday.

Here is a video from our KCB Field Trip to Sight & Sound last year.  I got to experience what it’s like to make a quick change just like the S&S actors!

Click here to visit the kidscookiebreak.com website and click on the KCB Calendar for information on Saturday’s live remote at Sight & Sound Theater.

And here is the link to the Sight & Sound Theatres website.

Hope to see you Saturday!

Another Christian Radio Station Bites the Dust

lisa : August 2, 2010 11:59 am : Lisa Landis

Let me first say thank you for believing in WJTL and supporting this radio ministry. I was reminded this past week how quickly a ministry like WJTL can be swept away in these tough economic times.

Whenever I’m on vacation-like last week in Sarasota, Florida-I like to scan the lower end of the radio dial where I always find the most creativity. That includes public radio stations, college radio, and Christian radio. Sarasota radio listening includes a number of Christian radio stations including Joy FM, Spirit FM and Life 89.1. While listening to Life on Friday the general manager made an announcement that took me by surprise. What I thought was going to be a “please send in your support” ad was instead, “as of this Wednesday Life 89.1 is being sold and will no longer be bringing Christian music to your radio”.
Here is why according to the WSMR Life 89.1 website:
1. Despite a great deal of support from listeners like you and our best efforts to contain costs, LIFE 89.1 has never been able to be fully self-supported in this market. Year after year we have relied upon the help of other Northwestern stations to cover our deficits.
2. Due to the economic crunch we have lost many major donors and business sponsors.
Even those giving lesser amounts are not able to give at this time due to unemployment and/or relocation.

Wow. I was not expecting that!

While scanning the Christian radio stations I was also reminded of the musical variety WJTL offers. I kept hearing the same songs again and again. Where were the request shows, classics, praise & worship, kids cookie break? Where were the DJ’s for that matter?  It was a reminder to me that I can’t take radio like WJTL for granted.

The announcement that Life 89.1 is going off the air this Wednesday also made me want to send a big THANK YOU out to all of you who are faithful WJTL supporters and continue to find a way to support this radio ministry despite this season of financial instability. AND to those of you who keep WJTL in your daily prayers. Thank you for your support! Together let’s aim to celebrate many many more WJTL birthdays in the years to come!

The Children’s Tent at Creation rocked today!

lisa : July 1, 2010 8:33 pm : Lisa Landis

Stop by The Children’s Tent at Creation East and say hi if you are here!  The Kids’ Cookie Break is the official Kids’ Tent host at Creation East and today rocked!  We started off the morning with worship lead by Gretchen & Heidi.  Phredd & his son Zachary started the music at 9am.  My fave was the song “If Coffee is So Good, Why Does it Taste So Bad”.  Check out the KCB You Tube page at kidscookiebreak.com for backstage coffee talk during Fred’s song.  Steven Courtney and His Band of Friends were next.  Steve told me his fave song to perform today was “Steven the Pirate”.  Mine too!  Then Jesse shared his reptile friends.  (we hope he brings his new baby Kenny to share with everyone on Saturday).  It was great to have Mark Thompson and his friends back at Creation East.  Here is a fun video of Mark making Phredd’s son Zack act like a puppet!

Donut Man closed out the morning with fun interactive songs, dances and words of wisdom.

Thanks to all of the kids who played the KCB Cookie Eating contest game AND the hula hoop contest!

More games, PLUS-Phredd, Donut Man, Randall Goodgame of “Slugs&Bugs”, Steven Courtney Band, Mark Thompson tomorrow in the Kids’ Tent.  See you there!

This Mom had a fantastic weekend. Mind if I share?

lisa : May 10, 2010 10:09 am : Lisa Landis

LISA LANDIS – This mom had a fantastic Mother’s Day Weekend.  Mind if I share?

First, I got to giveaway “Funky/Silly Bandz” on the Kids Cookie Break, making life easier for the mom’s whose kids’ are running all over creation trying to find a store that hasn’t sold out of the latest trend ( thanks to Olde Mill House Shoppe Lancaster for donating the Bandz).

Second, I got to redeem myself as an auctioneer for Friendship Community, taking on WDAC’s Mike Stike and WGAL’s Jere Gish to see who could raise the most money for Friendship.  I am happy to announce I had the highest bid ($625) for a rocking horse crafted by a Friendship resident. Hah! Even with all of the promises and bribes from the auctioneers (including my own bag of tricks aka silly bandz, cds, books), this mom worked hard to make up for brining in the least amount of money last year. Now to be honest, I did go last, which seems to be the winning spot. If the Freakonomics geeks would study this one I’m confidant they’d conclude, “the last person up to bat at the auction block always hits a home run.”  What made me most proud was that the three of us combined brought in more money for Friendship Community this year than last!!!

And finally, my Third weekend highlight (remember last hits the home run), my family spoiled me with brunch at “Wish You Were Here”, the latest “Central Market Cookbook”, an original book written and designed by my son with songs, poems, pictures, etc. and even dinner cooked by my 12-year old son Alex who is a marvel in the kitchen. It was pancakes for dinner. And we’re not talking out of the box. I’m talking the most amazing pancakes made from scratch with chocolate and cinnamon cream.

So as you see this mom had a marvelous mom’s day. And a big thanks to my mom for making it all possible 🙂

Happy post-Mother’s Day to mom’s everywhere.  I close with a few thoughts to make you smile:

Dumbwaiter: One who asks if the kids would care to order dessert.
Full Name: What you call your child when you’re mad at him.

QUOTES

A suburban mother’s role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car forever after.  ~Peter De Vries

Sing out loud in the car even, or especially, if it embarrasses your children.  ~Marilyn Penland

And funny joke:

A Sunday school teacher asked her class why Joseph and Mary took Jesus with them to Jerusalem.  A small child replied: “They couldn’t get a baby-sitter.”
