KCB Radio Beach Party, Purple Party Secrets, Prizes & YOUR fave song on the radio

August 3rd, 2017 No comments

LISA LANDIS~ Welcome to August!  When I was your age I looked forward to August, because that was when my family traveled to the beach in Ocean City, Maryland for one glorious week.  I still love the sun, surf and yes, even the sand as long as it stays away from my cookies 🙂  KCB is celebrating summer this weekend with a KCB “Radio Beach Party”.  From 10-11am the “KCB 10 o’clock Theme Party” features songs about the ocean, beach, sand & surf.  Many songs sound like a retro beach party your grandparents or dare I say great-grandparents will remember.  Deano & the Dynamoes, Uncle Stonehill, Phredd, The Lost Dogs, Justin Roberts, & Steven Courtney are just of the music makers who will share songs with us Saturday from 10-11am.

The KCB REQUEST HOUR is from 11-noon.  Start thinking about what song you want to request this weekend.  You can call the show starting at 11am (717)392-3690, or email your request to cookiebreak@wjtl.com, or have a grown up post your song request on the Kidscookiebreak Facebook page.

We will also catch up with Secret Keeper Girl creator Dannah Gresh with details on the upcoming

Purple Party Tour stopping off at The Junction Center.

I can’t wait for Saturday morning!  I hope you will join us.

Be by your radio (FM 90.3 WJTL) Saturday morning between 9-noon.

Talk to you then!

Dogs Days of Summer on KCB

July 7th, 2017 No comments

LISA LANDIS~ Happy July!  It was so wonderful to meet so many of you at Creation Fest & the Lititz 200th Celebration July 4th.  I hope you are enjoying the sunshine as much as I am.  It wasn’t TOO hot at Creation Fest or the 4th of July, but I’m sure we will have plenty of hot humid days ahead.  This weekend KCB celebrates The Dog Days of Summer with songs about DOGS!  AND chances to win and requests.  I hope you can join us!  Tune in tomorrow morning at 9am.  We are on the radio (FM 90.3) until 12noon.

What are the Dog Days of Summer?  Here is the answer from “The Farmer’s Almanac”:

“The phrase “Dog Days of Summer” describes the most oppressive period of summer, between July 3rd and August 11th each year. But where did the term come from? And what does it have to do with dogs?  Many people believe the phrase stems from the fact that dogs tend to be sluggish during the hottest days of summer (aren’t we all? ), while others still say the days are so hot it causes dogs to go mad. But the name is actually a reference to the fact that, during this time, the Sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. This is why Sirius is sometimes called the Dog Star.  In the summer, Sirius rises and sets with the Sun. On July 23rd, specifically, it is in conjunction with the Sun, and because the star is so bright, the ancient Romans believed it actually gave off heat and added to the Sun’s warmth, accounting for the long stretch of sultry weather. They referred to this time as diēs caniculārēs, or “dog days.” Thus, the term “Dog Days of Summer” came to mean the 20 days before and 20 days after this alignment of Sirius with the Sun — July 3 to Aug. 11.”
