New Tunes at 9 Roundup: Downhere

October 13th, 2011

Radio Friend Phil – Some of the biggest releases featured this week on New Tunes 9: “The One You Need,” by Shane and Shane and “Welcome To The Masquerade-Fan Edition” by Thousand Foot Krutch. One of the biggest stories of the past few weeks is the current buzz on the web surrounding you-tube sensation and Downhere lead vocalist, Marc Martel. As it turns out, Marc Martell was named the winning vocalist in the recent “Queen Tribute Tour” contest. He entered the contest by submitting a video of himself lip-syncing to the classic 1976 song by Queen, “Somebody To Love,” featuring vocalist Freddie Mercury. In just a few days, Marc’s video had received over 3.3 million views on you-tube! Click here http://downhere.com/index.php for more on Downhere and to watch the video, too.

I’m really enjoying Shane and Shane’s new self-titled track!

yikes! Somebody to love sounds amazing! I listened to that song and then I went on youtube and listened to Marc Martel sing a bunch more… for probably too long. haha my favorite was Bohemian Rhapsody. What gets me is how he gets so big of a sound and it doesn’t even look like he’s trying! crazy. 🙂

I thought it was so cool seeing Marc Martel on national TV! I’ve always loved the uniqueness of his voice, but I hadn’t really made the connection with Queen until my family did some research on his Freddie Mercury impression.
