New Tunes at 9 Roundup: Owl City

August 16th, 2012

Radio Friend Phil – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup: New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.  The month of August includes outstanding new releases from, among others, Luminate, Chris August, Tenth Avenue North, Andrew Peterson, and TobyMac. Available this week is “Jesus At The Center” from Israel And New Breed and “The Midsummer Station,” the fourth project from Owl City. Owl City, whose real name is Adam Young, is a Minnesota-based singer, songwriter, keyboardist and self-proclaimed insomniac. His synth-pop hits include the 2009 smash “Fireflies”  (from his “Ocean Eyes” project), “Galaxies” (off his 2011 project “All Things Bright And Beautiful”), and “Good Time,” available on the four-song “Shooting Star,” released earlier this year. Adam Young says that the “Shooting Star” EP was “an accurate snapshot of what the new record is all about.” The new project contains 11 tracks with a number of guest vocalists. You can preview new music at owlcitymusic.com. You’ll also find an interview with Owl City and Matt Thiessen of Relient K., and much more. Owl City is also scheduled to appear on the NBC Today show, next Thursday morning, August 23. For more on Owl City, go to http://owlcitymusic.com/
