New Tunes at 9 Roundup: Steven Curtis Chapman-Deep Roots

April 4th, 2013

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.) What more can you say that hasn’t already been said about iconic singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman? His numerous titles include, among others, musician, producer, actor, and adoption advocate. (To date, Chapman was won 56 GMA Dove Awards, more than any other artist in history, and he’s been actively releasing music since the 1980’s.) Outside of music, Steven and Mary Beth Chapman started a charity organization called ‘Show Hope,’ designed to mobilize individuals and communities to care for orphans. Now, in 2013, Chapman has released a stellar new project called, “Deep Roots.” “Deep Roots,” an Appalachian-music project, debuted at No. 2 on the Christian albums chart, and No. 68 on the Billboard 200. Those numbers are very impressive, considering that the project hasn’t received a lot of attention; it’s a testament to Chapman’s loyal fan base. For more on “Deep Roots,” go to http://stevencurtischapman.com/. You’ll find a link to buy the new project, via a partnership with Cracker Barrell.  In addition, you can also purchase “Roots” on iTunes.

Hey Phil, I heard The Eternal Affect (T.E.A.) last night on New Tunes at 9. Will you be playing it everynight this week as part of that show?
