November 8th, 2012

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup: New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL. New projects available this week: “Miracle” by Third Day and “For The Glory,” from the O.C. Supertones. Another project that I highly recommend is “The Loudest Sound Ever Heard,” by the Choir. “The Loudest Sound Ever Heard” is another sonic masterpiece! The project is full of lyrical poetry, imagery, the Choir’s impeccable sense of time and space, and the their signature ambient soundscapes (or “sheets of sound”). The band, led by singer/guitarist Derri Daugherty, and lyricist/percussionist Steve Hindalong, continue to create musical art on their own terms, often aided and shaped by Dan Michaels, a musician who plays the lyricon, an instrument he calls, “a wind-controlled, midi-saxophone.”  For more on the Choir, go to http://thechoir.net/ You can preview “The Loudest Sound Ever Heard” at the band’s iTunes store, sign up for band updates and check out special music packages, which currently includes a free 9-song compilation download (and the new single, “Shadow of the Cross”).
