NEW TUNES AT 9 ROUNDUP: THE SING TEAM!
Radio Friend Phil – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup: New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL. This week for the roundup, I recommend something a little bit different; something new and exciting by a 13-member group of family and friends called the Sing Team! It was WJTL’s Kristi Leigh, host of the praise and worship show, Sunday mornings on WJTL, who excitedly said to me one day, “Phil, have you heard about a group called “The Sing Team?” I responded by simply saying, “No, I have not.” Well, as it turns out, The Sing Team is an extension of the group’s ministry at Mars Hill Church Ballard, Seattle. The ensemble currently leads worship at Mars Hill, and Brian Eichelberger, one of the primary songwriters at Mars Hill, serves as lead singer. The music of The Sing Team can only be described as joyous, uplifting and celebratory; their songs are filled with hand-clapping, foot-stomping, and beautiful harmonies. The group themselves actually state that they are equally influenced by the Detroit/Motown sound as they are by Jim Henson’s Muppets. For more on The Sing Team! go to http://marshill.bandcamp.com/album/oh-great-is-our-god; you’ll find the Mars Hill blog, meet the Sing Team and listen to music off the band’s latest, 5-song EP, “Oh! Great Is Our God!” Finally, congratulations to TobyMac, who becomes just the third Christian artist to have a new project (“Eye On It”) debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200! The last Christian artist on the WJTL playlist to bow at No. 1 was Bob Carlisle; his 1996 project, “Shades of Grace,” propelled by his smash hit “Butterfly Kisses,” entered at the top of the Billboard chart back in June of 1997! http://tobymac.com/ TobyMac is coming to town for a concert at the Giant Center in Hershey, on Sunday, December 9.
