Select-A-Set is BACK!

January 18th, 2011

KRISTI LEIGH — I grew up listening to WJTL.  I was so attached to it that my parents passed up buying a house they really loved because it was out of the listening area.  Mom said WJTL discipled me all throughout my youth.  And it’s true!  One of my favorite features back in the day was Select-A-Set.  Radio Friend Phil used to air it in the evenings when I was doing my homework.  It was “3 songs tied together by a common thread.”  They could be linked lyrically, musically, thematically, artistically–almost any way you can think of!  Sometimes he would give the theme right at the beginning and sometimes he would give out prizes and have listeners guess.  By the time I started working at WJTL, Select-A-Set had gone dormant and I’ve missed it ever since.  So, a few months ago I decided to ask Radio Friend Phil if he would mind if I brought it back; and he was all for the idea.

So, with much nostalgic rejoicing I’m proud to announce that IT’S BACK!  Tune in for Select-A-Set weekdays at 3:50 p.m.  And if you have any ideas for a select a set, email me!  Kristi@WJTL.com

I thought that select-a-set was a throwback. I hadn’t heard it for the past couple of years (I only tuned back in online about 18 months ago – moved out of the listening area about 14 years ago). I like the way select-a-set shares with the listeners facts about the music (sometimes useless facts – which I love – but most of the time useful).

    Thanks for bringing this back,

PS – A select-a-set idea: songs that were inspired during foreign missions. I can think of two off the top of my head that I will e-mail to you. You might have to help me with the third.

growing up we never had christian radio stations. when i went to lbc i was introduced to wjtl and couldn’t believe that there was actually non-cornbally christian music and it truly helped me get back into listening to christian music. when i finally moved to pa permanently, and got a job at a christian workplace, one of the great joys was being able to listen to christian music all day and of course i turned to wjtl! it’s been a blessing! thank you and praise the Lord!!
