LISA LANDIS~ What are you doing New Year’s Eve?  Are you taking in one of the local New Year’s Eve gatherings?  Or maybe you are staying home with food and games?  No matter what your plans, Phil & I hope you can join us for the Top 100 Countdown 4-midnight.  Phil will be counting down WJTL’s Top 100 songs of 2017.  I will be driving the KCB Cookie Car to many of the New Year’s Eve events happening in our community.  Here are a few of the happenings in our community that I plan to visit:

Rissers Mennonite Church in Elizabethtown the film All Saints showing at 7pm. All are welcome! Refreshments and fellowship will follow the movie.  All Saints is based on the inspiring true story of salesman-turned-pastor Michael Spurlock (John Corbett) and a group of refugees from Southeast Asia. Together, they risked everything to plant seeds for a future that might just save them and their tiny church. FMI 717-653-4549

Christ Lutheran Church and the Winters Heritage House Museum-  The family-friendly event includes free food and beverages, games, crafts and music. At 7 p.m. a star will be raised behind the church to welcome in 2018 in honor of Elizabethtown’s sister city, Letterkenney, Ireland. Winters Heritage House Museum, 47 E. Hershey New Year’s Eve offers fun for the entire family, beginning this year at 11:00 AM at The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue. Celebrate the New Year throughout the day at The Hershey Story!  Jim Rule will perform kids programming on the Hershey Story’s front patio from 8:00 – 9:30PM.  He will be joined by the Hershey’s candy characters at 9:00 PM and will conclude his program with a bubble wrap stomp. hersheystory.org

First United Methodist Church of Hershey 64 West Chocolate Ave Hershey.  At 7, 8, and 9pm in the church sanctuary, a fun Celtic band will be holding a concert. There’ll also be homemade cookies and hot beverages in the basement social hall and games outside for the kids. No cost. The building will close at 10pm.

Akron New Year’s Eve Shoe In The 2017 Shoe-In will go from 9:00pm until 12:15am at Akron’s Broad Street Park.  This year’s event again features free food, a DJ spinning tunes, a bonfire and hayrides from 9:00 to 11:30. The traditional giant lighted shoe will usher in the New Year as it drops from its stand and touches the ground at the stroke of midnight. Free hot dogs with sauerkraut and condiments, cookies and hot chocolate will be served.  There will also be a trivia contest with prizes, & Akron fire officials with an engine on hand.  Good’s Disposal and Ephrata National Bank are the event sponsors. 

East Petersburg Borough’s New Year’s Eve Celebration on the Square will begin at 10:00 p.m.  Live music, wood carving by the Chainsaw Chixs, Magic of Daniel Clemente, and the Jug Drop at midnight by East Petersburg Fire Company.
