Fred Likes My Coffee

Admin : May 4, 2010 10:36 am : Eddie Daniels

EDDIE DANIELS – Yesterday I presented you with Exhibit A in the case of Fred v. Love of Coffee.

Ladies and gentlemen of the court, I now present Exhibit B. I think you’ll agree the evidence is overwhelming: Fred likes coffee, and it makes for great video.

WJTL Receives Two PAB Awards

Admin : May 3, 2010 5:19 pm : Eddie Daniels, Lisa Landis, Promo

EDDIE DANIELS – This afternoon Lisa and I were in Hershey for the annual PAB (Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters) Awards. WJTL was up for (and received) two awards: Outstanding Website (and yes, this was before our big website overhaul!) and Outstanding Program Designed for Kids.

I was happy to accept the award for our website and Lisa accepted on behalf of the Kids Cookie Break! It was fun meeting other people from a variety of TV and radio stations from across the state! Here’s a quick video of Lisa and I accepting the awards for WJTL. Is it just me, or do I look scared to death? Just for the record, I wasn’t…I think I was more concerned about whether or not there would be coffee refills.

There was.

Fred’s Drawing

Admin : May 3, 2010 8:30 am : Eddie Daniels

EDDIE DANIELS – This morning I made coffee.

That’s nothing new, as I’m usually in the office around the same time The Get Up and Go Show is under way, and I usually start the first pot of coffee around 6:20.

I think this morning’s coffee was extra-good, as Fred felt inspired to draw a picture for me to express his coffee gratitude. WJTL has a contest going on right now where you get to draw a picture of your favorite Fred song. Phredd’s picture not only incorporates his love for coffee, but also ties in three (count ’em, THREE!) of his songs.

May I present to the court, Exhibit A:

Exhibit B can be viewed here.

The History of WJTL

Admin : April 27, 2010 9:34 am : Eddie Daniels, music

EDDIE DANIELS – When did WJTL first appear on the scene? Was Fred always on the morning show? When did the station start broadcasting 24 hours a day? What is WJTL involved in?

All of these questions (and more!) are answered in this informative video.

Matt Hammitt on “Lead Me”

Admin : April 20, 2010 10:42 am : Eddie Daniels, music, Promo

EDDIE DANIELS – Not only did Sanctus Real’s Matt Hammitt perform “Lead Me” live on the radio, he also gave us a little insight in the song and the meaning behind it. As promised in yesterday’s post, here’s the video:

Sanctus Real’s Matt Hammitt Live on WJTL

Admin : April 19, 2010 11:47 am : Eddie Daniels, music, Promo

Sanctus Real was in town a couple of weeks ago and the guys were scheduled to come in for an interview with Kristi Leigh. As sometimes happens, they were having trouble with their sound check and some of the guys had to stay at the venue while lead singer Matt Hammitt came in to the station to hang for a bit.

Matt’s been in for an interview with us a few times and I think he’s pretty relaxed around us now; he’s always really nice and friendly. Kristi conducted a great interview and he also performed this song live on the air. Enjoy!

Springtime for WJTL

Admin : April 7, 2010 2:29 pm : Eddie Daniels

There are two times during the year when it really hits me how fortunate I am to have an office with a view. One of them is in the winter when the snow is falling and the other is in the springtime, when the snow is pink.

Singing with Garbage

Admin : April 1, 2010 11:38 am : Eddie Daniels

This morning Fred, Lisa, and I  went to Sahd Salvage to record a promotional video for the upcoming Earth Day event. I always love working with the gang there. Dan Sahd is one of JTL’s biggest fans, and as I told Fred later that day, it’s fun to work with someone who not only partners with WJTL, but is genuinely excited about it. Not to mention the fact that Dan buys us cheese steaks when we’re there. That’s nice, too. 🙂

Painting on Video

Admin : March 31, 2010 12:03 pm : Eddie Daniels, missions

Lisa Landis and I went to the Liz Hess Gallery in downtown Lancaster today for the unveiling of her new series. Although Liz is primarily known for her red umbrellas, this time around she sat aside her trademark for a new approach of the gospel by using images the people of Guinea-Bissau can relate to. The paintings are being packed up after this weekend is over and our very own Lisa Landis will be transporting them on her upcoming trip to Africa with Eastern Mennonite Missions.

If you missed the paintings at the April 2010 First Friday, you can visit Liz’s website, or see the video here:

Eddie Daniels

Admin : March 2, 2010 8:02 pm : Eddie Daniels

My name is Eddie Daniels. I started working at WJTL in 1999 as a part-timer, co-hosted the Get Up and Go Show with Lisa Landis for a bit, and eventually became host of the Afternoon Drive. At the end of 2001 I moved to Nashville to work with Gotee Records’ Radio Department. My adventures eventually led me back to Lancaster County and WJTL in 2007. I now work as the Production Guy, which is a quicker way of saying I write and produce the promos heard on WJTL (i.e. these guys are coming in concert/WJTL will be at this place next week/these guys are having a scuba diving party). I also work as the Video Guy, producing and editing the videos seen at the WJTL YouTube channel. On top of that, I also do the afternoon news and fill in on the air from time to time as well.

I’m excited about WJTL’s new website (looks pretty nice, eh?) and hope you enjoy browsing around and learning more about the WJTL crew. I for one am also excited to hear what my co-workers have to say.

Most people who visit us here at the station are usually surprised at what they find. A lot of people tell us the on-air studio is smaller than they expected.  My hope with this blog is to peel back the curtain and give you a peek at what goes on behind the scenes here that you may — or may not — have expected. Yes, Fred IS as goofy off the mic as he is when the ON THE AIR light is on. No, artists aren’t usually just hanging out here at the studio when they have spare time. And yes, John Shirk is indeed a quick-draw with puns.

Thanks for swinging by! Feel free to drop me a line at eddie@wjtl.com or say hello to me on Facebook. I’ll try to answer some of your questions about WJTL, music, and radio here in this blog.

Have a great day!

Eddie
