Fulfilled Purpose
JOHN SHIRK – In Psalm 138:8, David wrote, “The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever-do not abandon the works of your hands.”
We are the works of His hands, and so, David is praying that the Lord of eternity will not let us down. The first part of the verse affirms confidence in the LORD’s ability to complete what He starts in us.
This verse teaches us to seek God’s favor and to trust in His plan to carry out His purpose in us. God often uses our desires, abilities, and opportunities to guide us in His will. Sometimes, our desires can lead us astray. That is why the first step to living out God’s will is to delight in God’s love. Once that is established in our lives, He gives us the desires that motivate us to live for the glory of God.
That’s today’s Mission Statement for representing Jesus in the world today.

Thank you, John, for the encouraging word! This morning Jesus was impressing it upon my
heart to receive His nearness and rest in His closeness. Our trust in God’s care for us grows
as we truly delight ourselves in Him! Thanks again for the reminder to trust and rest in
Jesus… that’s the best place to be!!!!!!! 🙂
John, when you mentioned first starting with delighting in God’s love it reminded me of one of my favorite ver
ses in Psalms 37:4 where it says, ” Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Often I Often I will ponder what that is and what it looks like. I described it to a friend once as basking in God’s love. Wheen I think about some of my desires I have to wonder how long before the desires get answered? But I suppose that regardless of what desires we have and if they have or have not occurred we should always delight in God’s love! Thank you for your thought provoking words. 🙂
