As many as 31 local residents of our community will benefit from the projected 180 teenage and adult volunteers. The workcamp will provide free home repairs through the GROUP Cares program, sponsored by the Eastern York Workcamp Initiative.
During the workcamp, teenagers and adults- all members of church youth groups- volunteer a week of their time to repair homes throughout our community. This represents about 12,000 hours of volunteer labor- with a total economic impact to our community of over $300,000.00.
We can use volunteers June 23rd through the 27th- we’re looking for additional youth groups to be campers so that we can provide more assistance in the community, and also people from 12:00 to 2:30 that are willing to take snacks and treats out to the campers.
We are also in need of Local Project Advisers (LPA). These individuals would be helping at different work sites assisting the campers on the projects. We are looking for people with relatively high skill levels in building or repairing decks, porches, and handicap ramps. So we’re looking for retired people in construction, carpentry, or handymen. Obviously and always, we need prayers for all involved, including the campers that are coming from all over the United States to help us in the Eastern York/ Western Lancaster County. Prayers for all those helping with the camp and the residents who are getting the assistance.
