Internship Chapter Ending. New Chapter Beginning!

August 7th, 2015 3 comments

INTERN KATLYN – After twelve long and amazing weeks, I have officially completed my internship with WJTL. This experience has been one of the most memorable and rewarding in my college career. I have learned many great lessons and skills that I know will help me as I endeavor to finish out my last year at college and for my “Future in Radio” (Nudge Nudge. Read On! Nudge Nudge).

During my time at WJTL, I have had many different opportunities in and out of the office. As a good chunk of my internship, I was in charge of this summer’s Bumper Sticker Contest. It has taught me responsibility and leadership of how to handle a given task for a long period of time. The greatest part about running the contest was receiving letters from winners who were encouraged by our contest. After seeing all of those, I knew I had done a great job!

One of thing I had the most fun with was working live remote events. These events included the Seretoma Chicken BBQ, Lancaster Barnstormers Game, Kids Cookie Break events, and my favorite, Creation Festival 2015. I enjoy getting to meet listeners and hearing how WJTL blesses them. It’s always nice to talk to listeners in person. It is so nice to hear that they listen to me on the morning show as well!

Speaking of the morning show, one of the most memorable parts of my internship was being on the Get Up and Go show with Fred and Lisa on Tuesday mornings. They have been a joy to be around and I have learned so much from them. I loved being on the air and can see myself pursuing this as a “Future Job” (Nudge Nudge).

Though my journey as an intern is complete, my journey with WJTL is just beginning!! Starting this month, I will be joining the WJTL team as an on-air DJ! I will be your DJ Sunday afternoon’s from 12-4. I am super excited to be a part of the team and continuing to work with WJTL in the future!

As well as being a new WJTL DJ, I will be finishing my senior year at Lebanon Valley College as Music Business major. I have many great groups that I am going to be a part of as well. I will be this year’s Baritone Section Leader for the Pride of the Valley marching band, taking many different classes, participating in the jazz band for the first time in four years, and my favorite, being the President of the Vale Music Industry Conference!

I am so thrilled to be starting my senior year of college and joining this amazing team at WJTL. To hear more about my time here at WJTL, check out my new blog under my name, Katlyn Jumper, where I will be telling you more about what I will be doing here at WJTL. Don’t forget to tune in on Sunday’s from 12-4! Hope to hear from you and maybe see you at our future WJTL events!

Creation Fest Highlights

July 10th, 2015 No comments

INTERN KATLYN: As apart of my internship, I had the opportunity to work with the WJTL Road Crew at Creation Festival 2015. This has been one of the biggest highlights of my summer by far! During my time at Creation I had the chance to do many different things including, working the promotional tent, helping in the kids tent, taking pictures around the festival, meeting listeners, and having fun with the WJTL Road Crew! I wanted to take the time to touch on some highlights of my time at Creation Festival.

Colton Dixon: At Creation, I got the chance to work Press for the station. One of the tasks was to take pictures of some artists during there performances. The artist that I wanted to see the most that week was Colton Dixon and boy was I able to see him preform! He was so amazing and really brought a great sense of energy during his performance. His music is so uplifting! I always enjoy listening to him in my car, so it was nice to finally see him live.

The Kids Tent & The Doughnut Man: Working the kids tent was such a joy in the mornings. I enjoy being apart of Kids Cookie Break events and helping out Lisa, but this time, it was so much better! There were so many kids, a lot of energy and many great performances. One of my favorite parts about working in the tent was seeing the Doughnut Man! As a little kid, I went to Sunday School with my mom. Growing up there, we would always watch VeggieTales and the Doughnut Man. It was very exciting to relive my childhood and it was fun because knew some of the songs too! There were even a lot of of kids my age. It really shows how long he has been around doing music!

My time at Creation Festival can only be described in one work, “Unforgettable”. There was so much to do, many people to meet, and I had fun with everything we did! I had been to creation for a day in the past, but working with WJTL was a great and different way to experience Creation! Everything that I was apart of was so much fun and it was an experience that I truly will never forget! Hope that I get to join the team at future Creation Festivals. As for now, I am looking forward to future WJTL events and hope to see you there!

Get to know Intern Katlyn!

INTERN KATLYN – Hello WTJL Listeners! My name is Katlyn Jumper, most of you know me as Intern Katlyn. Before coming to WJTL, I spend the last semester learning about music streaming on the internet. While looking for internships, I came across WJTL and thought, why not experience, learn and intern where music streaming all started!

This coming fall, I will be entering my senior year at Lebanon Valley College where I am studying Music Business. I will be serving as the President of the VALE Music Industry Conference where I will lead a one credit class once a week. The conference is a day-long event giving attendees a chance to see panels talking about different parts of the music industry. After my time at Lebanon Valley, I plan to work in Radio Broadcasting with the hope of working at an internet streaming company in the future.

I grew up near Scranton, PA and I am the oldest of three with a younger brother and sister. My Brother, Douglas, is a junior in high school and my sister, Lauren, is a freshman in high school. My mother works at Golden Technologies, and my father is a construction worker for Pioneer Construction and serves in Navy Reserves.

While I am not working hard at WJTL, I am at home relaxing with the Dempsey family in Elizabethtown, where I am residing for the summer. During my free time, I enjoy spending time shopping, crocheting, watching Netflix, playing guitar and writing songs! I also enjoy taking trips and visiting new place with my boyfriend Josh while he isn’t busy working his internship at Berks Country Public Television.

My time as an intern at WJTL has been as blast! I have done so many jobs including, recording promos, assisting with live remotes, doing the weather Tuesdays on morning show, and helping out around the office. I have loved my time here and have learned so much about radio broadcasting while having a very eventful experience. I am looking forward to the rest of the summer with all of the memories, lessons and fun times! I hope to hear from you or see you at our future WJTL events!
