Today’s Opportunity to Grow Toward Christ-Impartiality

May 18th, 2011

JOHN SHIRK – To show impartiality is to be filled with God’s love and to lack prejudice or bias.  It is a quality that treats people with dignity and value. In order for a mediator or referee to be effective at their given tasks, they need to be impartial in the way they treat opposing sides.  For a Christian to be an effective agent of unity in the church and an effective witness for the Gospel, we must demonstrate impartiality.

James 2:1 says, “My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t show favoritism.  Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?”  James offers this helpful insight to help us to treat others with impartiality.  Verse 8 says, “If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing right.

Impartiality is a quality that enables us to represent Jesus in the world today.
