phil : November 14, 2013 6:13 pm : music, Radio Friend Phil, Staff Pages

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.) Singer/songwriter Dave Barnes was our guest this week on New Tunes at 9. Dave talked about his new projects, “Golden Days” and “A December to Remember”; and he took the time to reflect on the international success of his number one hit, “God Gave Me You,” a song he wrote and, subsequently, was taken to a whole new level of appreciation, by country singer, Blake Shelton. Barnes’ new project, “A December to Remember,” is available now on iTunes, Amazon and CD; the forthcoming project, “Golden Days,” is set to release on January 28. Dave spoke about the first-single, “Good,” and you can hear the conversation here http://wjtl.com/listen/wjtl-casts/. For more on Dave Barnes, go to http://davebarnes.com/. Ways to Help Typhoon Victims in the Phillipines

stacey : November 12, 2013 12:03 pm : missions, Stacey Gagne

There are many organizations and ministries lending aid to those impacted by the storm in the Phillipines.  Please pray for the victims and prayerfully consider how and where you can pitch in to those in need:

AMG International :  AMG has a large ministry presence in the Philippines, including in the hard-hit Visayas Region. Our field staff there, led by national director Hector Araña, has sprung into action collecting relief supplies, working to establish communication with our partners in the affected areas, and preparing to travel into the disaster zone to assess damage and distribute supplies to the thousands of families AMG serves through our childcare ministries there.is providing relief supplies from our Disaster Relief Fund (www.amgdisasterrelief.org), and funds are urgently needed to sustain this response. You can donate now at www.amgdisasterrelief.org, over the phone at (423) 894-6060, or by mail to AMG International, 6815 Shallowford Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37421.

HarvestNet International: Gifts through this link will be entrusted to pastors with congregations in the devastated area.  Locally based HarvestNET International has over 100 partner churches and ministries in the Philippines.

World Vision:  World Vision is launching an emergency response to help affected children and families in the Philippines.

Compassion International:   Your gift makes possible interventions such as: emergency food and water, temporary shelters, personal items, cooking utensils, trauma counseling and spiritual support, replacing clothing, school supplies and household items, restoring supplies a family needs for earning income, providing continued counseling and support as needed

Samaritans Purse:  A Samaritan’s Purse disaster response team is in the Philippines to help in the aftermath of one the strongest storms ever recorded.  “Our multinational team is coordinating relief efforts on the Leyte and the neighboring island of Samar, working with local Christians to deliver relief to those most in need. Community water filters, protective tarps, blankets, hygiene kits, and emergency family food packets are being rushed to affected areas.”

SEND International:  SEND has set up a Typhoon relief option that will allow people to give to Filipino churches who will aid in disaster relief

MCC:  Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is responding to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, providing funding for relief, supporting an initial assessment team of an MCC partner organization and working with partners to determine needs for longer-term recovery.

CCT: Center for Community Transformation:  HOPE International’s local partner, the Center for Community Transformation (CCT), works in the regions hit hardest by the typhoon, and they are currently mobilizing to provide these communities with immediate help.

New Tunes at 9 Roundup: The Choir

phil : November 7, 2013 6:48 pm : music, Radio Friend Phil, Staff Pages

RADIO FRIEND PHIL – Greetings! It’s time for this week’s New Tunes at 9 Roundup. (New Tunes at 9, one-hour of new and emerging music, weeknights at 9 p.m. on WJTL.) The Choir just wrapped up their first-ever Kickstarter campaign and, due to the band’s fiercely loyal fan base, was able to meet their goals and will continue working on various, developing projects. (Those projects include an all-acoustic Christmas EP, a live DVD, and another full-length studio project, the follow up to “The Loudest Sound Ever Heard.”) If you go to http://www.thechoir.net/, you’ll find the archived web stream of the Choir’s recent home studio concert, broadcast world wide for the Kickstarter campaign. And speaking of Kickstarter, one of the many incentives offered to fans was a new, unreleased song called, “Beautiful Girl.” Dan Michaels, the lyricon player for the Choir, explained the idea behind the song on New Tunes at 9 http://wjtl.com/listen/wjtl-casts/For more on the Choir, go to http://www.thechoir.net/ You’ll find facebook, iTunes, and link to a free, down-loadable, 15-song compilation of Choir songs.

“Music Connections Live From The Junction Center”

ann : November 5, 2013 12:29 pm : Ann D'Alessandro, Staff Pages

The Junction Center is the home of WJTL and our vision is that it will be a place where people can come together and connect with one another and with God.  Going along with that, we are planning a night of “Music Connections Live From The Junction Center” where people from our community can get together, listen to some great music, connect with others who have similar visions and of course drink some great coffee from The Good Java Company!  The Courtyard Cafe on Main will be providing the snacks.  We are inviting local promoters & those from local venues/coffee houses. Dan and Lauren Smith will be closing out the evening.  We will also have music from Marty Shaughnessy, Matt Wheeler and Stuart Young.  We have such an awesome local music scene and we would like to provide a venue for all of you to come together and connect.   This will also provide an opportunity for you to get a tour of WJTL and The Junction Center if you haven’t already!  We would love for you to come if you are involved with bringing live music to your home, church, coffee house or other venue!  This is a free event, but you need to have tickets, so let me know if you would like to attend.  We hope to see you soon!!!

“Music Connections Live From The Junction Center” – Monday, Nov. 18th at 7PM.
