God Quote-What It Means to Follow Jesus

john : August 7, 2025 10:55 am : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of God’s Word, this is what the LORD says in John 12:26.

Jesus said “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”

A close relationship with Jesus is the key to abundant service. There is more to fruitful ministry than having good leadership qualities, the ability to speak, and the ability to sing. Effective service begins with time spent with God in prayer and in His Word. This is where we yield our lives to God and dedicate ourselves to His plan. In our quiet time with God, we learn to live a Christ-centered life and find encouragement to press on in the faith.

Jesus assures us that our Father in heaven takes notice of our service in the Kingdom. He takes joy in honoring us when we live for Jesus with a pure heart.

John 12:26-that’s today’s God Quote for us to embrace for Life.

Today’s Word from God’s Word-Unfailing

john : August 7, 2025 10:52 am : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Word from God’s Word is Unfailing.

When this word is used in the Bible, it refers to God’s love and kindness. One definition of unfailing is “without fault or error.” Another definition is “reliable or constant.”

Seeing God’s love this way makes a difference in how we view life. We will approach our circumstances with much gratitude and security in our relationship with God. We will learn how to love others better. We will see hope for the future. We will experience joy in the present.

In Psalm 90:14, Moses offered this prayer, “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

From Psalm 94:18, “When I said, ‘My foot is slipping’, your unfailing love, LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”

Discover how the word “Unfailing” can have an impact on your life in the Year of God’s Word.

God Quote-The Father’s Approval

john : August 6, 2025 11:32 am : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of God’s Word, this is what the LORD says in Luke 3:22.

At the Baptism of Jesus, the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

The baptism of Jesus was an event that launched His earthly ministry with His Father’s approval.

This would have given Jesus much joy to hear the Father’s voice, because His focus was doing and completing the work of the Father. He said in John 8:29, “The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.”

This is a noble aim for our lives-to please God in whatever we do. Great joy awaits those who are faithful to the Gospel. The voice of the Master will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness.”

Luke 3:22-that’s today’s God Quote for us to embrace for Life.

Today’s Word from God’s Word-Doer

john : August 6, 2025 11:29 am : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Word from God’s Word is Doer.

This is an active word in the Bible that calls us not just to hear God’s Word, but to obey it.

James 1:22 instructs us with these words. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” The King James Version of the Bible calls this being “doers of the word.”

Verse 23 says, “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it, not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it-they will be blessed in what they do.”

Discover how the word “Doer” can have an impact on your life in the Year of God’s Word.

God Quote-Healing and Freedom

john : July 24, 2025 5:17 pm : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of God’s Word, this is what the LORD says in Luke 4:18 and 19.

Unrolling the scroll of Isaiah, Jesus read from it in the synagogue: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Then, He said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

The fulfillment of this prophecy brought fulfillment to many lives. The ministry of Jesus was about healing and freedom for people in need. He came to help, to lift up, and to save with His power of grace.

He is still changing lives today by setting people free by the truth of the Gospel. Through the struggles and questions of our lives, Jesus is our ultimate hope and the final answer to God’s promises.

Luke 4:18 and 19-that’s today’s God Quote for us to embrace for Life.

Word from God’s Word-Fix

john : July 24, 2025 5:12 pm : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Word from God’s Word is Fix.

The Bible often refers to this word in the context of directing our eyes or attention toward Jesus or the pathway where He guides us.

Hebrews 12:2 instructs us to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

This call to “fix our eyes on Jesus” is the key to living with 20/20 spiritual vision. He gives us hindsight to learn faith lessons from history. He gives us insight for living with purpose and wisdom today. He gives us foresight to see the hope of His glory in the future.

Jesus is the light that we need for encouragement and clear direction in life.

Discover how the word “Fix” can have an impact on your life in the Year of God’s Word.

God Quote-The Value of Relationships

john : July 23, 2025 11:07 am : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of God’s Word, this is what the LORD says in Genesis 2:18.

“It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

When the world and the universe were formed, God was in the pattern of describing His creation as good. At the end of the sixth day, God saw all that He had made as “very good.” But when it came to the man being alone, God said that this is not good. And so, God created Eve.

We were made for relationships. We were made for community. We were made to feel a sense of belonging. This is where we receive help from others and have opportunities to help others to grow. There may be beneficial seasons of solitude, but as a pattern for life, it is better to be engaged in relationships than to be isolated. Good Friendships are great blessings from God to cherish.

Genesis 2:18-that’s today’s God Quote for us to embrace for Life.

Today’s Word from God’s Word-Self-Control

john : July 23, 2025 11:02 am : Devotionals, John Shirk, Staff Pages

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Word from God’s word is Self-Control.

This is a quality found in the Fruit of the Spirit. It is a quality that helps us to say “No” to influences that might corrupt our minds and hearts or distract us from staying focused on Jesus.

Our use of the media is one area where self-control is needed. It can be a useful resource to educate us or provide wholesome entertainment. But it can also consume an enormous amount of time and energy that takes us away from engaging in person-to-person relationships. There is also the risk of being exposed to harmful content in what we watch or hear.

Titus 2:11 goes to the source of self-control in the Christian life. “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “no” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age.”

Discover how the word “Self-Control” can have an impact on your life in the Year of God’s Word.
