Prayer Focus-Your Will Be Done

April 6th, 2026

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of Focus, we take a look at the prayer of Jesus at the Mount of Olives.

On the night he was betrayed, Jesus and his disciples went out as usual to the Mount of Olives. That is where Jesus prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Luke 22:44 says, “Being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”

Jesus taught us to pray, “Your will be done.” He modeled that prayer at the Mount of Olives when He entrusted Himself to the Father’s plan. The death and resurrection of Jesus offers us a valuable faith lesson. There will sometimes be pain when we yield to God’s plan for our lives, and there will also be victory on the other side.

The prayer of Jesus at the Mount of Olives is worth examining for a faith-focused life.
