Word from God’s Word-Covenant
JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Word from God’s Word is Covenant.
In basic terms, a covenant in the Bible is an agreement between two parties. There were times when God made covenants with His people. He made a covenant with Noah, Abraham, the people of Israel, and with David. These covenants also point us to the faithfulness of God to His promises.
When Jesus came on the scene, He made a new covenant with His followers. At the Last Supper, He took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to His disciples, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.” Then He said in Matthew 26:28, “This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
His blood was shed on the cross and paid the price for our redemption.
