Rain Rain Rain: Day Two

Phillip Miller : June 27, 2013 10:35 pm : Phillip Miller, Staff Pages

Day two brought rain and a river that ran through our tent.  Though it sounds dreary, the day as a whole was equally as good as day one.  My six frisbees were gone within a hour of people guessing the #1 condiment in the US.  Some said ketchup, others said mayo, but the correct answer was mustard.  Did you get it right?  Before the rain came, the people came in waves to be considered for the two hot air balloon tickets; our tent was packed.  But only one person could be the winner and that person was Gabrielle Capper of Altoona, Pa.  Congrats!

In this world there are universal things everybody loves: contemporary Christian music, Kristi Leigh, and free Chick-fil-A.  Tomorrow I will be giving away free Chick-fil-A for a year.  Yes, you read that right.  If you win tomorrow, you will be eating one Chick-fil-A sandwich, every week, until Creation 2014!  Besides free Chick-fil-A, I have t-shirts, cinch bags, and coffee mugs to give away.  But if you’ve learned anything from todays Frisbee giveaway, you’d know I love fun facts.  So here we go: The average hot dog is consumed in how many bites?  Guess correctly and you’ll be walking away with a t-shirt, coffee mug, or cinch bag.  Good luck!

Intern Sandra Out and About: Creation Crew Day 2

Admin : June 27, 2013 3:20 pm : Intern Sandra

Intern Sandra here! The Creation Crew has been kept busy all day with the many activities around the Creation Festival.  This morning, I hung out in the Kid’s Tent with the Kids Cookie Break.  The line up included Jesse Rothaker, The Donut Man, This Way Up, and What’s In the Bible.  There was even a special appearance by Bob and Larry of Veggie Tales!

As per usual, the Kids Cooke Break table had KCB wristbands, pencils, stickers, and plenty of cookies.

Intern Sandra Out and About: Creation Crew Day 1

Admin : June 27, 2013 12:19 am : Intern Sandra

Today I had a blast at the first day of Creation 2013!

A staple of the Creation experience is the tarp run, where groups line up all over to be the first to snag the perfect spot, using their tarp as a placeholder.  I ran into some listeners from Palmyra as they were strategically planning  their tarp placement.

The day kicked off with a Steve Taylor concert, and wrapped up with a stellar show from Switchfoot.

Day One: An Adventure

Phillip Miller : June 26, 2013 9:42 pm : Phillip Miller, Staff Pages

God is moving at Creation 2013!  We spent the day hearing tales about what WJTL means to different listeners and the impact the station has on our community.  It was truly heart warming to hear God in the stories that were told.  We also gave away a boat load of wristbands and magnetic clips: they were like hot cakes, I tell ya.  Our Walk In Love gift basket found a home in the arms of Maddie Feiser of Havertown PA. Though the basket looked small it was full of great items from a great store.

Tomorrows giveaway is going to be two hot air balloon tickets courtesy of United States Hot Air Balloon Team. Also, I have six frisbees to give away. Beause the number is so small, I can not give them away willy nilly; I need something in return. So here it is: What is the #1 condiment in the US? The first six people to answer correctly will be throwing a WJTL frisbee with their new found friends! Good luck and good night to all!

Intern Ashley Experiencing the World of Radio

Admin : June 26, 2013 4:02 pm : Intern Ashley

ashley

This fall I will be a senior at Millersville University and since graduation is really not that far down the road anymore its time to start thinking about what I really want to do upon graduation. Since I am majoring in Broadcasting communications and have the opportunity to do an internship, WJTL seemed like a good choice to get my first experience in radio and I’m  most certainly glad I did.

My internship began at a WJTL live remote at the end of May at the Sertoma Chicken BBQ. I worked at the merchandise table greeting all of you who were excited to watch the talent challenge and cheer on friends and families. Meeting some of you WJTL listeners and hearing your stories made me realize that I was about to be apart of something great and that this summer was bound to be a journey of new experiences and opportunities.

Here at the station I have been working alongside John Shirk, learning the boards and discovering everything that happens behind the scenes  from when a DJ prepares to go on air to the performance end of live radio, and even editing. I am even getting the opportunity to DJ a Sunday afternoon shift. I have been able to go to remotes such as the Lancaster Barnstormers, where I helped set up the sound system for the Steven Courtney Band and Phredd, and I assisted Lisa Landis at Camp Swatara for the Kid’s Cookie Break where we handed out plenty of chocolate chip cookies and even held a bubble gum contest to see who can blow the biggest bubble. As you can tell we have a lot of fun at these live remotes.

Here at the station I’ve been able to watch Phil Keaggy perform and am looking forward to performances from other artists who will eventually perform at the Junction Center. In addition to learning the technical aspects of radio, here at the station its safe to say that I have done a little bit of everything, from pulling weeds, to working in the mail room, to giving the WJTL vehicles a good wash, to preparing for live remotes, grocery shopping for the station, and bumper sticker spotting of course.  All of it has been a good experience! The staff here is so supportive and fun to work with! You can feel God’s presence here and its exciting to see what God is doing through WJTL and will continue to do through their ministry. I couldn’t have asked for a better internship. I am extremely blessed to have such a great place in the area to learn from about the world of radio.

Creation 2013: Here We Come!

Phillip Miller : June 25, 2013 12:43 pm : Phillip Miller, Staff Pages

Our duffel bags are packed with shorts, WJTL shirts, and sunscreen; Creation 2013 is less then a day away.  A Walk in love gift pack, two tickets from The US Hot Air Balloon Team and a WJTL prize pack, equipped with a soon to be autographed water bottle, are ready to be given away in our daily giveaways.  I hope you are as excited for Creation 2013 as the WJTL Creation Crew.  This year our tent can’t be missed and we have enough stickers to cover the Switchfoot bus twice over, (our goal is to give away as many as we can).  Along with the stickers, we have WJTL wristband, pencils, pens, clips, bags, and much more.  Plus, stop by daily for surprise giveaways that will be more spontaneous than Toby Mac’s stage show.  See ya tomorrow!
