Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Follow Jesus

March 17th, 2023 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is to follow Jesus.

Jesus invited some fishermen to follow Him in Matthew 4:19. He said to Simon Peter and Andrew, “Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed Jesus.

There is a Chinese proverb that says “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” We don’t know how many miles Peter and Andrew traveled with Jesus, but that first step out of the boat was the beginning of a journey that led them to Jesus, and they would never be the same after that. Their influence for Christ would bring many more people into the family of God.

Jesus said in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Following Jesus is a vital step to a radiant faith that makes a difference in our world.

Daily Challenge-Following Jesus as a Disciple

February 3rd, 2021 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of Endurance, today’s Daily Challenge motivates us to take a step toward discipleship.

In the days of Jesus, a disciple was someone who would learn from their mentor and follow them wherever they went. Jesus called His disciples to follow Him and then prepared them for leadership.

Mark 1:16 and 17 records the appointment of two of Jesus’ disciples: As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. Jesus said, “Come follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

Just as Simon and Andrew spent time with Jesus and were trained for productive service, so we can have a voice for God today that leads others to faith in Christ. The starting place for that kind of platform is to accept the invitation of Jesus to follow Him.

Take the daily challenge to walk as a disciple of Jesus and learn from Him on the journey of faith.

Eye On Integrity-Following Jesus

November 5th, 2018 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Eye on Integrity is based on Matthew 4:19.

Jesus said to Peter and Andrew, “Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.”

The Bible notes how Peter and Andrew responded to this invitation. “At once, they left their nets and followed him.”

As they followed Jesus, His words came true. Peter and Andrew were effective witnesses of the Gospel that led to the salvation of many souls. When Peter preached at Pentecost, 3,000 people came to faith in Christ in just one day!

We can follow Jesus as our Savior with a trusting heart, knowing that He loves us, and knows how to lead us to productive places of service. Then, beyond this life, He will have a heavenly home ready for us.

Walking as a follower of Jesus step-by-step is a virtue to embrace for our lives in the Year of Integrity.
