Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Endure Hardship

July 24th, 2023 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is to endure hardship.

Hebrews 12:7 encourages us to endure hardship as discipline. When this is occurring, God is treating us as His children.

Sometimes, in our difficult challenges, we might incorrectly feel that God is far away and does not love us as much as He once did. If we conclude that, we become discouraged by our circumstances and feel like giving up on the path we were taking.

However, Hebrews chapter 12 is there to remind us that God still cares in our trials. He is working to refine our faith in Him, not to discourage us. Verse 10 says about our human fathers, “They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best, but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Enduring hardship is a Vital Step to a Radiant Faith that makes a difference in our world.

Light Reflection-I Corinthians 1:30-Wisdom from God

May 30th, 2023 No comments

JOHN SHIRK -Today’s Light Reflection is from First Corinthians 1:30.

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God-that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.

When Jesus steps into our lives, He brings the influence of His grace and truth to redirect our path in a new direction.

His Light overcomes our darkness. His Clarity overcomes our confusion. His Wisdom overcomes our folly.

The wisdom of Jesus leads us into paths that are righteous, holy, and redemptive. James 3:17 tells us that the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”

This Light Reflection inspires us to fully embrace Jesus and live out His wisdom in the Year to Shine.

Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Pure Heart

February 1st, 2023 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is a Pure Heart.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said in Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

This beatitude has to do with living for God with pure devotion and pure motives. If we want to live in the light, then the way forward is to fix our eyes on Jesus and protect our heart from all kinds of corruption.

The starting place for a pure heart is reverence for God. Job was commended as a man who was blameless and upright. He feared God and shunned evil. In light of all that God has done for us, it is fitting for us to respond with gratitude and offer ourselves to Him with complete devotion.

Second Corinthians 7:1 urges us to “purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”

A pure heart is a vital step to a radiant faith that makes a difference in our world.

Key Elements for Thriving Relationships-Peace and Holiness

December 22nd, 2022 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Key Elements for Thriving Relationships are peace and holiness.

Hebrews 12:14 says, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

A life of holiness flows out of a heart that is wholly devoted to the Lord. His holiness will inspire us to be holy before God and to have pure relationships. That includes having pure motivations to love people sincerely in ways that benefit them.

God’s love for us inspires us to seek peaceful relationships. His purpose for sending Jesus to the world was to reconcile us to Himself. Jesus became the bridge that enabled us to have peace with God. That is the kind of peace that can spread through our witness for Christ. Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Peace and Holiness are key elements for thriving relationships that honor God.

Encounter With Jesus-Simon

July 14th, 2015 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of Connection, today’s Encounter with Jesus examines His encouragement to a disciple overwhelmed by His holiness.

It happened in Luke 5. Simon was fishing all night long, but did not catch anything. At Jesus’ instruction, he let down the nets in deeper water, and caught a boatload of fish. It’s a remarkable event that shows the futility of our efforts without Christ, and the effectiveness of our efforts with the help of Christ.

When Simon saw what happened, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man.” But Jesus said, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.” So Simon and his friends pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed Jesus.

We may relate to Simon’s internal struggle. In the presence of Jesus and His holiness, we may feel unworthy to be called one of His followers. However, that is the kind of person that Jesus is ready to bless with a productive purpose in the Kingdom of God. He will not shame us when we recognize our sinfulness. Instead, He will lift us out of our shame by inviting us to follow Him. He will replace our fears of punishment with faith in His unfailing love.

A daily connection with Christ gives our life meaningful purpose as we follow Jesus.

Praise & Worship Show “Holiness” Theme

September 28th, 2014 1 comment

Thanks to Bob for suggesting today’s Praise & Worship Show theme: “The Holiness Of God”!  He also provided a tip for those of you who are trying to find songs to fit themes: www.PraiseCharts.com/themes.  I checked it out and it did, indeed, help with some suggestions!  I also like to check iTunes, lyrics on Google and find Scriptures that relate to lyrics.  My husband, Sam, and I are worship leaders–so I also just sort through my brain, which has compiled a nice database over the years.  🙂

Below you’ll find my playlist for the program.  Please get in touch (email me or comment on this post) if there’s a theme you’d like to hear on the show in the future!

If you’re into the theme today, Isaiah 6 is a passage in the Bible that many of these songs reference.  Click here to read it online at Bible Gateway’s site.

Moment of Celebration-God’s Holiness

August 27th, 2014 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Moment Of Celebration reflects on the holiness of God.

The angels make this declaration in Isaiah 6, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty. The whole earth is full of his glory.”  It was the kind of statement that caused Isaiah to feel doomed as a sinner. Yet, God’s holiness was accompanied by His compassion, and that makes all the difference for anyone who has sinned against God. Instead of being condemned as a sinner, he would be called into service as a saint. The holiness of God had a purifying impact on Isaiah, and it has a purifying impact on those who belong to Jesus.

The holiness of God refers to His absolute moral purity. There is no sin in Him. His glory shines with brilliance. God’s holiness also refers to His greatness. He is a cut above the rest. No persons or idols match the worth of God to the human soul.

One of God’s purposes for our lives is to make us holy, not in the sense that we are able to attain to His level of greatness, but in the sense of purifying our faith by the Word of God.  His holiness becomes an incentive for us to grow in holiness. First Peter 1:15 and 16 says, “Just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written, “be holy, because I am holy.” Heaven celebrates the supreme holiness of God constantly.

The holiness of God is a reason to be glad in the Year of Celebration.
