JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Q and A Segment explores the question, “What is the meaning behind the Parable of the Rich Fool?”
Jesus told this parable in Luke 12 to show that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.
A rich man had a bumper crop year. He thought to himself, “What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops”. Then, he said, “This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, ‘You have plenty of grain laid up for many ears. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”
But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then, who will get what you have prepared for yourself?” Jesus said, “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves, but is not rich toward God.”
The point of this parable is not to suggest that it is wrong to save money or plan for retirement, but it does highlight the folly of storing up for ourselves treasures on earth without storing up treasures in heaven in the Year of Exploration.

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of Exploration, today’s Reason to Believe is the moon.
According to NASA, the Moon is approximately 238 thousand miles from planet earth. On a cloudless night, it appears as a light in the sky faithfully.
Psalm 89:37 describes the moon as the faithful witness in the sky. We see the moon because it reflects the light of the sun.
God’s promises are like the moon in the sense that they reflect His goodness and trustworthiness.
Our good deeds carried out in the name of Jesus are also like the moon in the sense that they reflect God’s glory.
Jesus instructs us to let our light shine before others, that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven.
In this way, followers of Jesus can be like the moon and reflect Christ’s love and goodness to the world in which we live.
The Moon, as a faithful witness in the sky, is a reflector of light and is a reason to believe in God’s good news.

Priceless: Now Playing! Learn More!
Katlyn Jumper : October 28, 2016 8:00 am : Katlyn Jumper, Staff PagesStarting off as a song, Priceless is a movie that is inspiring many. Over the weekend, Joey and myself drove out to Bloomsburg to see the movie Priceless. It was very powerful, inspiring, and truly a movement in itself. Here’s some more information on the movie, the song, my experience, and where you can see it now!
The band, For King and Country wrote the song “Priceless” for the anniversary addition of their sophomore album “Run Wild, Live Free, Love Strong”. This song sparked a movement on the issue of the worth of women. For King and Country wrote Priceless to remind others that women, as well as men, are worth more to God than anything. That is especially true in situations like relationships. The song spoke so much to listeners and the band, that two years ago, they decided to make a movie devoted to showing a women’s worth. Focusing on the issue of Human Trafficking. You can read the synopsis of the movie at pricelessthemovie.com/#synopsis
Going into the movie, I expected there to be drama and a great message, but came out with so much more. James’s background story was harsh. He had gone though a lot with his family. The way that his personality changed as the movie went on, and how he saw the worth of those women was unreal. While watching the movie, I would think from time to time, that this movie is based on true stories, meaning that these events still play on right now. Many men take for granted the worth of women and put them at a price, but truly, we are all priceless in the eyes of God. This movie is sparking a movement called The Priceless Movement. They are raising awareness to Human Trafficking and building homes where these people can find refuge physical and spiritually though christ.
As in a rating stand point, I give it two big thumbs up. The video quality was good for a small family staff, and the music was well done. The actors were well picked, and fit into their roles well. The rating for the movie is PG-13. I highly recommend to not take children that aren’t yet in middle school because of some violent scenes, and the topic of Human Trafficking.
Over all, I am so thrilled for this movie. I believe that it’s movement can spark and change our future generation. Now you can see it too! As of today, October 28th, Priceless is playing at Penn Cinema in Lititz!! For more information on the movie or the movement, check out the websites below. Take your youth group, family, or friends and see this movie. You will not regret it! And always remember, you are “Oh so Priceless!”

Q and A-What does the Bible say about work?
john : October 27, 2016 3:53 pm : John Shirk, Staff PagesJOHN SHIRK – Today’s Q and A Segment explores the question, “What does the Bible say about work?”
In the beginning of the Bible, we see a description of God at work in the world. For six days, He created the world, and on the seventh day, He rested from all his work. The Sabbath-rest followed this pattern of six days of work and one day of rest.
God gave work for man to do, even before sin entered the human race. Genesis 2:13 says that the LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
The thorns and thistles came to the workplace after sin entered the human race. Frustration from work was what resulted from the fall.
The good news about Jesus is that His resurrection provides purpose for the labor that we do for Him. First Corinthians 15:58 encourages us to always give ourselves fully to the Lord, because we know that our labor in the Lord is not in vain.
God uses work in our lives in various ways: to give us satisfaction, provide for our families and others in need, serve others, and bring glory to Jesus. Work is a gift from God that gives us the opportunity to serve Him productively in the Year of Exploration.

I was baptized at Hershey Free Church when I was in junior high. It just so happened that the day my church was holding the event was on Halloween, and I was at a point in my life where my school was my mission field. This was back in the day when “In The Light” by Charlie Peacock and “Be The One” by Al Denson were newer hit songs, not Classics — and “Shine” by Newsboys didn’t even exist yet! I carried my Bible with me every day at school and invited friends to youth group events. I was on fire for God on couldn’t think of a more powerful day to be baptized than on Halloween. I was into Frank Peretti books and learning about spiritual warfare…being baptized on Halloween was as good as it could possibly get! It was like taking the darkest day and making it stand for my dedication to Jesus, which I figured would send a loud and clear message to the devil.
The Bible verse I shared before taking the plunge was Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
If you’re in total darkness, even just one match is a game changer! One very small light will always defeat darkness. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5
In the Bible, “Light” is life. It guides our path. It purifies. It brings hope. It is closely associated with God’s presence and favor. Jesus is called the “Light of the World”. Isn’t it such good news that God called us out of the darkness and into His marvelous light?! We’ll sing about it with a light-themed playlist on this Sunday’s Praise & Worship Show from 6-10 a.m. and I hope you’ll join me.
Hi there,
Here’s the “Good Good Father” devotional
The Hillsong United song “Rhythms Of Grace” is rooted in Matthew 11:28-30The Message (MSG)
28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Feel free to get in touch,
