Join the Team and Volunteer at Kids Cookie Break Festival

August 1st, 2018 No comments

Our summer keeps on trucking, doesn’t it!?  Here at WJTL we are well aware of how quickly the summer goes by as we prepare for Kids Cookie Break Fest coming up on August 25th!

In case you aren’t familiar; KCB Fest is our annual event here at the Junction Center geared toward children and their families.  It’s a one day music and family festival.  This free event is a wonderful opportunity for families to reach out to neighbors and friends with kids under 12 !  Music, games, inflatables, firetrucks, petting zoo, pedal cars, barrel train rides, and more are all offered for free during morning and afternoon sessions from 10am-2pm and 3pm-7pm.

Would you consider joining us and being part of our volunteer team this year?  We need help staffing all the fun areas of the festival.   There are a variety of jobs from parking to ticket taking and selling merchandise or snacks.  Maybe you could help with a carnival game,  pick up trash or help hand out bag lunches.   Please consider joining us on this fun day. Check out our volunteer page and sign up or email me to find out how to be a part of the team.

About Community Calendar Events

July 18th, 2017 11 comments

The community calendar is both the literal calendar that you find on our events page as well as the public service announcements you hear DJ’s read on the air.

A few tips for the events calendar:

1.  You can click on any event and find more information.

2.  Color codes (when viewing the calendar by month):

Green: Get up and Go Show guests

Red: Kids Cookie Break Events

Orange: WJTL Live Events

Blue: Community Events

3. To submit your information,  click on the image that says “Add Your Own Community Event”  at wjtl.com/eventswjtl_event_add

Once your information is  submitted, it’s reviewed.  Once approved, it is posted online and also made eligible to be read on the air.    (Be sure to adjust the event time and date in the drop box section because that is the date and time that it appears on the calendar)  We suggest submitting your information at least 2 weeks prior to the event to give ample time for approval and posting.

4.  We try to announce events that make sense for us to mention on WJTL.  So, if an event is about a band or music style that we don’t play,  geared to a very specific audience (like a church business meeting), or Sunday morning events (due to the fact that there are hundreds of churches in the area doing special things every Sunday morning) they would not be listed.  There are several other guidelines, but these are some of the biggies.  Please realize there are many man organizations in the area hoping to share about their special event, because of that, we cannot be available for the posting of events that recur on a regular basis.

5.  PSA’s are free and we do our best to give attention to as many as we can on the air.

If you have any other questions about an announcement you heard or need help,  please email contact@wjtl.com.

A Nostalgic Night of Music and Celebration: Rainchildren and Jawbone Hill

April 17th, 2017 No comments

I spent most of my college and post grad free time traveling between concert venues in the Philly and Lancaster area.  There was always a venue to catch live music… be it a coffee house, a college venue, church basement, school auditorium or other establishment.  The 90s in Lancaster County brimmed with talented local artists covering a wide variety of creative expression.   These were the days of The Friday Night Rock Jam on WJTL, Purple Door Festival, Java Casa, Cafe Angst, and more.

During that season; Rainchildren and Jawbone Hill were mainstays in the regional “alternative music” scene.   Besides their many regional shows; they spent a summer on a national tour playing festivals and other venues.    Both artists released numerous musical projects including CDs released by Smart Records, a division of Creative Ministries.

On May 6, Rainchildren and Jawbone Hill will once again be playing together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rainchilren’s CD “Feels Like Summer”.  This is the first time in many years that these two bands have taken stage together and it’s going to be an awesome night of nostalgia and great music from two talented and fun bands.   (Members of Rainchildren have been playing together as The Stars Are Spies, members of Jawbone Hill are uniting for this one time special event.)

I am excited for this throwback concert celebrating the talent of local artists.   This is another  excellent moment in our kick off season here at The Junction Center Landis Hall.  May 6 at 7:00 pm.  Junction Center Landis Hall .  Tickets at thejunctioncenter.com or 717-459-3701

Rend Collective and Urban Rescue, First to Play Landis Hall

March 24th, 2017 2 comments

Our Grand Opening Celebration Concert Event with Rend Collective and Urban Rescue is just around the corner, on Monday April 3.  We are thrilled that Rend Collective, a band that played main stage at Creation 2016 and is coming off an arena tour,  will be the first to play Robert M. Landis Hall!

We have an extra special evening planned.   A pre-show reception will take place when doors open at 6:00 including light hors d’oeuvres, pre-show music from House Project (musicians from the band Reilly), and a first look at Landis Hall.    The Grand Opening show will include a fully produced concert with Rend Collective and Urban Rescue … a dedication celebration we are truly looking forward to.

A limited number of seats are available due to the nature of the extra special event.  Tickets are $100.00 and can be reserved at thejunctioncenter.com or by calling 717-459-3701.  A tax deduction is being provided for a portion of the ticket price.

Yulissa Likes Chickens and is Learning About Jesus

March 21st, 2017 No comments

As we have prepared for our 27 Hours of Compassion, I found myself going through letters and photos from the little girls that I sponsor.  Yulissa is the little girl that I sponsor from Guatemala.  In some of her letters to me she has shared:

  • prayer requests for her family
  • she likes the story of creation
  • she loves to sing
  • she loves to color and paint
  • she has sent hugs
  • she has received Jesus as her Savior
  • she is learning to pray
  • she wants to be as obedient as Mary the Mother of Jesus

In her most recent letter, Yulissa mentioned that her favorite pets are her cat and chickens.  It’s evident in her artwork below.

I love to encourage her,  to let her know that I am praying for her and keep reminding her that Jesus loves her.

I encourage you to consider starting this kind of special relationship as an individual or a family today!  Visit http://compassion.com/wjtl where you can see all the children awaiting sponsorship and prayerfully consider who you may be able to encourage!
