JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Good News Focus is on First Timothy 4:16.
“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
This verse stresses the importance of what we believe and how we live. Both matter in terms of how they have an impact on our lives and on those watching us.
A good starting place for believing in sound doctrine is to study the life of Jesus. Examine how He lived, what He taught, and what He did to make redemption possible for us. He loves us and invites us to follow Him. He seeks a relationship with us that will change our lives and save us from our sins. As we put our full faith in His gift of grace to save us, Jesus will make us instruments of His grace for others as we live out the Gospel.
Jesus is our Source of Good News, leading us to places of integrity and influence in the Year of Vision.

It’s a Breath Theme this morning! These songs celebrate the breath in our lungs, which means life for our bodies — and the opportunity we have to transform that breath into an offering of praise.

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Eye on Integrity is based on John 14:6.
Jesus told His disciples, “I am the life.”
He is the source of life. He spoke of two dimensions of life when He held out the offer of life to us-eternal life and abundant life.
In John 6:40, He said, “My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
In John 10:10, He said, I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” Jesus offers the kind of life that abounds in peace, in love, in grace, in joy, in hope, in gratitude, and in good deeds. Receiving Jesus as Lord is the key to these abounding treasures.
Faith walks toward God, using the bridge that He has provided to cross over from death to life.
Walking in the life that Jesus has for us is a virtue to embrace for our lives in the Year of Integrity.

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year of Exploration, today’s Reasons to Believe are life, purpose and identity.
These three experiences of the Christian life are described in a single statement made by the Apostle Paul. When he was in Athens, he linked these experiences to a relationship with God. He said in
Acts 17:28, “In him, we live and move and have our being.”
In a relationship with God, we have life, eternally and abundantly through faith in Jesus Christ. Our spirit comes alive to God’s grace.
In a relationship with God, we move. He puts the purpose into the steps we take. That purpose is to glorify God. This focus will affect the choices we make day-to-day.
In a relationship with God, we have our being. As we know God as He is, we come to understand how He sees us. First John 3:1 says, “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”
Life, Purpose, and Identity in Christ are reasons to believe in God’s good news.

Hi everyone!
Did you hear my good news this week? My husband, Sam, and I are expecting a baby boy in mid February! Check out my blog post here. This will mean some changes in my work schedule–but it won’t change anything on the Praise & Worship Show! I’ll run some repeats for you around the time the baby is born…but I’ll be back with fresh material for Sunday mornings after that!
Sam & I have waited a long time for our family to start. Since getting married 7 years ago, we’ve also both fought cancer (and are back to good health)! This edition of the show will bring a powerful theme: “Songs To Sing Through The Storms Of Life”. Many of the songs in this playlist are ones that we sang–and were strengthened by–during those tough times. You’ll see the playlist below and a few other tidbits.

“Don’t you know that day dawns after night, showers displace drought, and spring and summer follow winter? Then, have hope! Hope forever, for God will not fail you!” — Charles H. Spurgeon
Sixpence None The Richer puts this memory verse in song and encourages us not to worry about tomorrow; He’s got it under control.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Moment Of Celebration reflects on Jesus as the Resurrection and the Life.
In John 11:25, Jesus said to Martha: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”
Then, He turned to Martha and asked her a question that is relevant for us as well. Jesus said, “Do you believe this?”
There are various beliefs about Jesus today. Some say that He was a good man, who demonstrated wise teachings and who did good things for people, but not more than that. To others, He is a swear word. To others, He was a deceiver. Others echo the response of Martha, who said, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”
By saying this, Martha was affirming that Jesus was not just another ordinary man, but that He came from heaven as a promise from God, and is the source of eternal life for all who trust Him for salvation.
The eternal life that Jesus offers us is a reason to be glad in the Year of Celebration.
