Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Follow the Way of Love

June 22nd, 2023 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is to follow the way of love.

That is the word of instruction to us in First Corinthians 14:1. The way of true love is the way of Jesus, and is necessary for representing Jesus in the church and in our communities.

According to First Corinthians 13:4 to 7, this is the way of love. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

Following the way of love is a vital step to a Radiant Faith that makes a difference in our world.

Vital Step to a Radiant Faith-Wait On the Lord

March 21st, 2023 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – In the Year to Shine, today’s Vital Step to a Radiant Faith is to wait on the Lord.

This is not a passive exercise, but rather a combination of planting seeds, growing in faith, and being patient.

James 5:7 encourages us to look to the example of the farmer.

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.”

God will rescue His people from this broken world someday, but until then, He has us here right now to plant seeds of faith and shine His light to a world that needs Jesus. As we wait for the Lord to return someday, we are also called to serve the Lord diligently today.

Waiting on the Lord is a vital step to a radiant faith that makes a difference in our world.

Relationship Building Principle-Patience and Kindness

February 13th, 2015 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – Today’s Relationship-Building Principle comes from First Corinthians 13:4.

“Love is patient, love is kind.”

With love, we recognize that people are in process. They have room for growing in maturity and character development, just as we have room for growth in these areas. With patience, we give our friends and neighbors time and opportunity to grow. We work with them so that they might develop into the kind of person that God calls them to be. Jesus is our ultimate example of patience. Mark 16 says that as the disciples went out and preached the Gospel, the Lord worked with them. He was working with men who had room for growth.

With love, we also exercise kindness. This means that we have a friendly disposition in our relationships. We show consideration for the needs of others, and seek to be a blessing in their lives. There is great influence in kindness. Romans 2:4 talks about God’s kindness leading us toward repentance. Lives can change in dramatic ways when kindness is expressed in our relationships.

Patience and kindness are qualities that benefit our marriages, family relationships, and friendships.

Exercising patience and kindness is a relationship-building principle to take to heart in the Year of Connection.
