Susquehanna Chorale Spring Concerts

May 9th, 2020 No comments

The nationally-acclaimed Susquehanna Chorale will present its spring concert series, “Through Love to Light,” on May 8 and 9.

Artistic Director and Conductor Linda L. Tedford has designed a concert of music that celebrates the resilience and strength of the human spirit in song, crafted by some of today’s most exciting and innovative composers.

“These are stories that connect us and reflect our capacity to love and persevere, even in the face of adversity,” Conductor Tedford said. “I am particularly excited about the centerpiece of our performance: Jake Runestad’s A Silence Haunts Me, which invites us into the personal experience of Beethoven as he gradually loses his hearing. I find it especially meaningful to present this stunning piece in 2020, the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.”

Kim André Arnesen’s Even When He is Silent encourages hope in the darkest hour of life. The text for this piece was written by a World War II prisoner, who etched the words on the wall of his cell while being held at a concentration camp.

The concerts also will feature Eric Whitacre’s Goodnight Moon, Elaine Hagenberg’s Oh Love and Through Love to Light, Shawn Kirchner’s Sweet Rivers, and James Stevens’ arrangement of Nearer My God to Thee.

The May 9 performance from Messiah College also will be available via livestream.

The Chorale is an award-winning adult chamber ensemble of 38 auditioned singers, based in central Pa.

The Chorale wishes to thank Fulton Private Bank, its 2019-20 season sponsor, and University Music Service of Hershey, the spring concert sponsor.

Portraits of White 2019 Christmas Concert

December 14th, 2019 No comments

Singer/Songwriter Frances Drost is “lighting up the region” with her sixth annual Portraits of White musical extravaganza—with an extra special festive element—Candlelight.

Frances lost two brothers when she was a little girl and never knew how to process the grief, especially during the holidays. One year, she decided to “skip Christmas” and ask God to reveal to her why she had a hard time with Christmas. Months of quiet reflection began to reveal her deep-seated, unprocessed grief and as she began to heal, she started writing music. With a vision to share her story and music, she stepped out to follow her dream of putting together a professional concert each December. Along with other professional musicians from the South Central Pennsylvania region, Frances now combines humor, stories and inspiring music to offer hope during the holidays. This event has become a highlight of the Christmas season for many people.

Every year Frances and her Portraits of White team work hard to maintain the nostalgic feel of Christmas while presenting music in a unique way that is new and creative but still leaves you with the warm, fuzzy Christmas feeling you expect during the holidays.

This year’s concert will be held at The Meeting House in Carlisle, PA (Carlisle Campus) in their cozy, intimate Sanctuary setting. Choose from 3 different event times:

Friday, December 13 @ 7:00 pm

Saturday, December 14 @ 2:00 pm or 7:00 pm.

Tickets and information available at PortratsOfWhite.com or by calling 717-448-8268.
