Reason To Believe-The Big Picture

January 4th, 2016 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – This is the Year of Exploration at WJTL. We will explore various questions about the Christian faith and examine daily reasons to believe in the Gospel.

Today’s Reason to Believe is the Big Picture.

From the beginning to end, the Bible outlines human history in a way that reveals Jesus as our only hope for salvation from sin.

The first two chapters in Genesis reveal Creation, where God made the heavens and the earth.

The third chapter of Genesis reveals the fall of Adam and Eve and the consequences of sin.

Much of the Bible covers God’s plan of redemption through the coming of Jesus Christ. The Old Testament anticipates the arrival of the Christ with the law, feasts, and prophecies. The New Testament reveals Jesus as the Christ, who fulfills the law and the prophets.

And the book of Revelation reveals the new heavens and the new earth, where God’s followers are restored to complete fellowship with God.

According to First Peter 3:18, Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

The big picture of history and God’s plan of redemption is a reason to believe in God’s good news.

Lesson of Faith-The Message of God’s Creation

October 8th, 2013 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – the message of God’s creation.

In Psalm 19:1, David wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the end of the world.”

The universe is God’s billboard sign to the world, telling us that He is real, He is wise, and He is strong. This world is not the product of chance but the result of God’s choice.

Romans 1:20 says, “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

Those who follow Jesus are compared to the stars in the universe. Our lives can display the glory of God by reflecting the light of Jesus through wholesome words, sincere love, humble attitudes, and pure motives.

The message of God’s creation is a lesson of faith worth remembering.

Rain Rain Rain: Day Two

June 27th, 2013 2 comments

Day two brought rain and a river that ran through our tent.  Though it sounds dreary, the day as a whole was equally as good as day one.  My six frisbees were gone within a hour of people guessing the #1 condiment in the US.  Some said ketchup, others said mayo, but the correct answer was mustard.  Did you get it right?  Before the rain came, the people came in waves to be considered for the two hot air balloon tickets; our tent was packed.  But only one person could be the winner and that person was Gabrielle Capper of Altoona, Pa.  Congrats!

In this world there are universal things everybody loves: contemporary Christian music, Kristi Leigh, and free Chick-fil-A.  Tomorrow I will be giving away free Chick-fil-A for a year.  Yes, you read that right.  If you win tomorrow, you will be eating one Chick-fil-A sandwich, every week, until Creation 2014!  Besides free Chick-fil-A, I have t-shirts, cinch bags, and coffee mugs to give away.  But if you’ve learned anything from todays Frisbee giveaway, you’d know I love fun facts.  So here we go: The average hot dog is consumed in how many bites?  Guess correctly and you’ll be walking away with a t-shirt, coffee mug, or cinch bag.  Good luck!

Day One: An Adventure

June 26th, 2013 1 comment

God is moving at Creation 2013!  We spent the day hearing tales about what WJTL means to different listeners and the impact the station has on our community.  It was truly heart warming to hear God in the stories that were told.  We also gave away a boat load of wristbands and magnetic clips: they were like hot cakes, I tell ya.  Our Walk In Love gift basket found a home in the arms of Maddie Feiser of Havertown PA. Though the basket looked small it was full of great items from a great store.

Tomorrows giveaway is going to be two hot air balloon tickets courtesy of United States Hot Air Balloon Team. Also, I have six frisbees to give away. Beause the number is so small, I can not give them away willy nilly; I need something in return. So here it is: What is the #1 condiment in the US? The first six people to answer correctly will be throwing a WJTL frisbee with their new found friends! Good luck and good night to all!

Lesson of Faith-Remembering God’s Creation

January 28th, 2013 No comments

JOHN SHIRK – Psalm 104 is a chapter that talks about God’s creation of the world and how He provides for His creation. The writer marveled at God’s handiwork, saying, “How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”

He recognized our dependence on God’s favor for the blessings that sustain us. In reflecting on the wisdom of God and His many works, the writer responded with this expression of praise in verse 33.

“I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD.”

There are many reasons for us to praise God. His creation, formed from His wisdom, is one of those reasons. Take a look around, and express gratitude to God for the world He has made. You can also look at the mirror and thank Him for creating you uniquely and loving you completely.

Expression of praise to God is a lesson of faith worth remembering.
